I think I might have been given some duff information
I asked if our BR would have any impact on my son, who was upgrading his own young persons account as he is now 18, and he said that the address could link him. Im not sure thats correct either :cool:0 -

I was just curious as to what a Certfiicate of Clearance meant. Not heard of it before in regards to BR. And the Nationwide Account Manager seemed to think if we could get one it would make life easier !!) I am interested in finding out about this too? Where do apply for this certificate and how much does it cost?
Cheers

No one seems to have heard of it SugarThe guy even wrote it down for me and said I could get it from Experian. All the wise posters here have not heard of it so Im wondering if its irrelevant to BR.
I would have gone into more detail with him, but we were there for my sons account, he just happened to ask me about our banking requirements and thats how our BR was brought up.0 -
Angie - there is no financial link purely by address these days. However, links can be made 'accidentally' so always worth keeping an eye on your credit files.
I got mine when I was living after the last time I left home and found a financial link to my mum at the family home. All she'd done was apply for a small bank loan and somebody somewhere punched a button that connected us. It was easy to rectify, just sent a letter to the relevant credit reference agency informing them there had never been any financial connection between myself and my mum. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

Have you rung the NW back to ask someone else? Or spoken to Experian to find out if they know what it is?
Just done a few googles and the only thing that stands out is a Certificate of Clearance in relation to crimes. Maybe the chap you spoke to thought going BR gave you a criminal record? Either way, he needs telling his advice is just plain wrong. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

Thank you INAN :T Thats good to know.
I do worry if our BR will have any financial effects on our kids regarding their accounts or future applications for financial products0 -
well I am in regular contact at the mo with Experian and Equifax - trying to sort some creditors out!! - I think I will ask the question later today and let you know. I have exhausted every avenue trying to get 4 creditors to correct my files - these were all included in my B/R and provable, but they just wont correct my files, I am at the stage of complaining to ICO etc about this as I waited 12 months after my disharge to start cleaning my files....so I am thinking this certificate thingy sounds good to me!!! I have had loads of notices of correction on my files but still fighting to get these 4 corrected!! Fermie may know what it is and I am sure he will be in soon
I will keep you updated though, as and when I find out!!

It shouldn't do as credit records are all about the individual now, unless there is any joint financial connection. Just as a thought though, do you have any accounts open for your children with both your name and theirs on it? It's just possible some banks would make a link from that although they probably shouldn't.When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

His advice could well be wrong.
Its not too relevant at the moment. I haven't even began our credit file clean up yet !
We will also be going back to them 1 year after discharge as they suggested to discuss our cashminder + account with them, so I expect I can ask again then or next time Im in branch.
Will let you know if I find anything out.0 -

We only had Halifax ones which they kindly closed for us :cool:0
