monument Payment break Plan

I have claimed from Monument for a payment break plan i believe was missold. They have sent me a long winded letter saying it is not the same as PPI blah blahblah and that i signed the terms and conditions and that it is shown on my statement each month as payment break plan and therefore i should have cancelled it should i have not wanted it! (Yes i suppose this is correct but i thought i HAD to have it)
Anyway this 3 page letter finally says that i opened my account in august 2001 but they are only prepared to look at my account from the last 6 years which resulted in me paying £747.57 in these charges .... but..... they are offerring me as a gesture of goodwill (lol) only half of this amount = £377.29
I owe approximately £500 on my account - should i push for this account to be finalised or should i just accept this "gesture of goodwill"

Thanks

    Hiya
    That is a good result.
Many will only go back the last 6 years, but it seems they do still hold the info going back to 2001, so the decision is yours.
You do what you feel is right for you.

    Well done on this!

They cannot pay you redress as they have to calculate the exact figure they owe you.
Give them a ring and ask them to write to you with the full figure when they have calculated this and then you will sign.
And well done on your win.

Today I got a letter from Monument with an acceptance form to sign. They are offering me the total amount I have paid in for the last 6 years (i.e. £754.57) Should this not include interest and if so how do i work it out please. Am sick of them trying to get away with this now.
    Thanks

As this is a goodwill gesture, i am not sure about the interest, but would think the offer is without interest.
If anyone else know more about this, then i am sure they will post.

You could write back, give the reasons for mis sell and tell them you were mis sold and if they do not take a look at this again, you will take this to the FOS.
  • Interesting. I wrote to Monument about my charges (but not in relation to claiming back PPI) and got the same letter you all did - offering me half as a 'goodwill gesture'. Does anyone know what the 'Limitation Act' Tugela mentions is? I'm trying to clear an overlimit balance with monument so if they would offset the whole of the PPI charges against it that would be a huge help. Thanks.
  • Hi all those who are claiming back from monument could possible give me the address you have written to. as it changed hands so many times not sure who to write to. Thanks.
