Washing a Maclaren pram cover

We have recently got a Maclaren buggy which has become marked and it needs to be washed.

The cover seems to be bolted to the frame with clips and small round washers but we cannot get these off the wash to cover.

Can you advise me how to get these off?

Many thanks and regards
Susie

I can't tell you how to get these off but when I had a maclaren buggy for my littlies years ago I used to take it outside with a stiff scrubbing brush, bowl of soapy water and give it a good going over. It came out great. I used to use vanish soap on any stubborn stains.

I also had a cover I made that pretty much covered the whole of the bolted on seat part but it still got a bit dirty here and there with drinks spilling.

I used to do it on a sunny day and leave it in the sun to dry.

Have you tried Googling or YouTube? I found instructions on there for unfastening a pushchair cover a year or so ago.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • I used to do mine in the garden too, bit of clothes wash in a bowl of water and a nail brush. Mine is a pale cornflower blue and can get grubby when it's closed and the wheels touch the hood.

if its the same as mine, the loops have a screw in the middle of the plastic bit that holds them on, i just un screwed them washed the cover then screwed them back in ;) done it loads of times now with no probs, hope this helps hun :D

edit just to say i stick my covers in the washing machine on a 40 wash with no probs so no need to hand wash ,my models are xlr and techno xt.

Last time I unscrewed a buggy cover for washing, it was easy enough until it came to putting it back together, so my maclaren, after a winter in the garage, will be getting the garden hosepipe treatment.

I have a little maclaren too from years ago and I just put it in the bath - it had mould on it and had to use a stong cleaner, but it came out alive.

  • Unscrew it, wash it then put it back together. Hardly rocket science.
  • ty to those who have offered constructive advice :D

Property advert - the above doesn't include you!! rocket science it may not be but there you go. I assume you have never tried to dismantle a Maclaren then . . . .

I asked HOW TO GET THE COVER OFF as there is no visible way of removing the cover!

The washers seems like an allen key type but round and no tool we have fits into it.

I'll do a bit more googling and see what I find.

I wouldn't advise taking the covers off and washing because they really are never the same. They lose that crispness. I would do as suggested above and just take it outside and wash it lightly and let it dry.

the chances are the covers don't come off, the little rivets aren't meant to come off.. if you take them out you need a rivet gun to get new ones back in.. the lightweight buggies rarely are washable.. take it outside and give it a scrubbing with a stiff brush and hot soapy water..

Maclaren being one of the worst for non-removable covers.. I won't even give them houseroom!

  • Well, I emailed Maclaren and sent pictures of the buggy and on this particular model you cannot take the cover off  I've scrubbed it with scalding hot water, bleach, disinfectant and stardrops and it still pongs. I might give it another try as my neighbour gave me some Stardops with ammonia in. Failing that I'll have to skip it - arghhh!

    TY for all your ideas.

PS It apparently IS rocket science after all!! :j
