Is it TT or my computer ?

I have a problem almost everytime I try to connect (via TT.).

Once the power is on, within moments both green lights on the Speedtouch modem are constant, so one must assume it aint TT's fault.

My desktop icons appear & once the egg timer has gone I clic on the TT icon. Connection fails. > Diagnose my Connection > Windows is Shutting Down (but it never does, I have to turn power off & on) >sometimes Blue screen > Desktop icons re-appear > Assist & Go >Dialing TT> Get Connected> error 680>error 680>error 680>Diagnosing System> You will need to contact TT.

I try again then after the Get Connected which I've underlined, I get a connection.

Any comments. I had wondered if my 5/6yr old machine should be replaced, but if it's simply a case of me having done something wrong, then with help, maybe this could be rectified.

    Hi Islandman,

    Can mean a few things.

    First of all it does sound like your computer needs a seeing too, and possibly and upgrade/new one.

    Need to know a few things.

    Which modem are you using?

    The 680 error is a (No Dial Tone Error)

    Doesnt mean you dont have a dial tone on your computer but that your modem is not picking up a signal from the line.

    If you have a speedtouch 330 you need to check 1 thing.

    if your adsl light is flashing it means there could be a problem with your filters or a problem with your line.

    If everything looks fine it could be the connection, drivers etc

    if you could give me a bit more info i can try and help.

    oh and has it ever worked.

    yes it is a Speedtouch 330, and yes, the green lights are constant and yes, from when I was connected to TT (eventually) it has worked for the last 3 months, albeit with reservations. By that I mean when I've tried to close down, I've frequently been given "Windows is shutting down" and it dosen't, so I have to swith off the power. This means when I start up, I get the blus screen whilst it performs the scan.

    Last week, after surfing an hour, I was fortunate to close down correctly, but an hour later I couldn't regain a connection. It remained that way for 4/5 days. I asked them in Carphone Warehouse what i should do, and they emailed the TT centre and was promised a call back, which they DID. But, by then I'd decided to uninstall a desktop calender which I had a feeling about, and it started straight away. It was then that TT rang and I didn't need them.

    A few days later, and starting up almost everytime is as listed in my original post. I simply have to go through all that then start again and half way through I get a connection.

    For what it's worth, initially the CD rom with the software arrived, it was faulty and the information was introduced manually with TT talking us through it. I often wonder if it was done correctly.

    I will await your thoughts on this additional information. Hopefully tomorrow I will eventually get back on. If I don't respond quickly, it won't be because I'm rude, it'll be because I can't. Thanks again

    Sounds like the know problem with the speedtouch and older systems.

    If you go onto http://www.speedtouch.co.uk/330.asp

    you should be able to download the new updated driver.

    OK here is a quick step by step on what to do.

    1: Get your original software disc
    2: Unplug your speedtouch
    3: Delete the connection from ( Network Connections )
    4: Put the Disk in, type in D:\speedtouch\setup.exe -remove

    This will fully remove the whole speedtouch sortware

    5:Restart your computer

    6: now use the new driver you have downloaded and install the software.
    plug in speedtouch when prompted.

    This should sort it out for you.

    Any problems just give me a shout.

    Now that is what I call service. Before I take that any further, it is interesting to note that this morning I made several attempts to get on line, eventually I did. I took a break and for almost two hours it was hell. There were times when a connection was made ie two green tv's in rt corner of task bar, but I could get no pages/sites. I had intended to stay away from the machine for the remainder of the day, but temptation brought me back and I connected first time.

    In just a little while, I have to get ready to go out, and anticipate being out most of sat, BUT, just as soon as Sunday arrives, will endevour to follow your instructions. I have to ask, have you been through this yourself, or are you an IT consultant or extremely knowledgable ?, or am I thick ?

    Work in IT mate and specificaly dealt with speedtouch for BT before they stopped sending them out.

    The symtoms you described comon problem with the speedtouch 330.

    As long as both the lights are green there is always a way to sort it unless you get a 721 error.

    Anyways, off out myself.

    will check this later on sunday to see how you get on.
