I have emailed the seller informing them of the malfunction, but had no reply. I assume that merchants should have to honour a normal 12 month guarantee, but I assume somebody is now about to tell be that there are ways of escaping such a commitment. So fire away please and disillusion me.
they state not to email them, but to send a message via ebay, could that be the reason why they did not reply?0 -

One should always contact the seller via ebay. Then if there is a dispute ebay can look at all the messages etc.Lifes a !!!!! and then you marry one:D0 -

'Definate', 'Aswell', 'Rediculous', 'Payed'...and the best of all 'Could Of'. How can anyone think that 'Could Of' can actually mean anything. You may as well write 'Could Zebra' for all the sense it makes.0 -
But when you are selling a car with a manufacturers warranty the seller does not have to offer a warranty as it is covered by the manufacturer. If I sell a Vauxhaull that is 1 month old It is covered by the warranty, these warranties are transferable from buyer to buyer. Lets say you just bought a car from me and it goes wrong. You bring it back. Where do I send it? Ah you ghessed right. Hence why second hand car dealers do not give a warranty on cars that still have one. If it is out of warranty I give them a warranty with it. This is covered by the RAC and the customer is told that if there is a problem they phone the number on the booklet. Not me as they have the warranty with the RAC not me. If they brought it back to me I would phone the number and they will try and fix it if not take it to someone who can. I do not have a workshop therefor if a car is broke I cannot fix it. This has been the case in the motor trade for over 5 years now and yes we stand by any standards that SOGA say. But if you read it properly you will find there are certain clauses etc that are not covered by the motor trade.
It is really quite simple. A warranty is not required for me, a private punter, to get a car fixed I recently bought from you, a trader.
And all your bleating on about "wah wah wah, I take out warranties for my customers with RAC and they're told to ring them" well here's a wake up call, SALE OF GOODS ACT STATES THE BUCK STOPS WITH YOU and even if there's a RAC warranty in place, if they phone you and you insist they sort it out with the RAC themselves then you are foul of the law.
People like you who bleat on about warranties are the main guilty ones for not honouring your obligations under SOGA. Ever wonder why the motor trade is the most complained about to TS?0 -

I have never had any problems with customers who buy a second hand car from me. It is customers like you who cry foul. I bend over backwards to help my customers and as yet have never lost a customer. I actually own a main dealership and it is new customers who are the worst. They buy a new car and cry it hasn't got this or that. Then they should have upgraded when they bought as every customer is shown all models in that class and it is upto them which one they buy. We never force anyone to buy. Second hand customers are great and I have a 95% retention which is one of the biggest in the UK. Plus we get awards for how we treat our customers not just from our parent company but from other outside influences as well. :TLifes a !!!!! and then you marry one:D0
