    Use a proxy server...... then you will appear to have different IP address to sites you are visiting.

  • ...if I had a dynamic IP I could end up being assigned an IP for one or more sessions that is has in the past been used for illegal activites.
    Each ISP will know which IP address was assigned to which member, so it will be easier for the authorities to trace/help their investigations. Therefore, if you get an IP address which was previoulsy used for illegal activities and you weren't online or had a different IP address at the time, depending on the date/time of the illegal activity occurring, you may not have anything to do with the criminal investigations which will be targeted more towards the person who actually committed the offence at the time, so you really shouldn't worry too much. :)

    I think all/many companies offer dynamic IPs for free, but they usually charge for static IPs.

    For various reasons I'd rather have a static IP - mainly so I can connect to my home network when away if I wanted/need to.

    Most routers support dyndns, have a look at that if you want to connect to a dynamic ip.

    If you use Firefox, there's a proxy plugin/add on that you can set up with your list of proxy servers.

    A quick tutorial....

    Proxies can be used to anonymize yourself while surfing the web, because they handle all the HTTP requests for you.

    You can find a list of public proxies everywhere. Google is your friend for proxy lists.

    To configure your web browser to use a proxy server, find the appropriate dialog box in your settings dialog box (it varies from different browsers).

    Proxy setting in Internet Explorer 4.X
    1) click "View" \ "Internet Options"
    2) click "Connections"
    3) enable "use a proxy server"
    4) in fields "Address" and "port" type proxy name/number and proxy port;
    5) if nessesary enable "bypass proxy server for local addresses"
    6) click "OK"

    Proxy setting in Internet Explorer 5.X
    1) click "Service" \ "Internet Options"
    2) click "Connections"
    3) if you use Dial-Up connection choose (highlight) your connection and click "Settings" button.
    4) if you use LAN connection click "LAN Settings" button in the "Local Area Network (LAN ) Settings" group box
    5) enable "use a proxy server"
    6) in fields "Address" and "port" type proxy name/number and proxy port;
    if nessesary enable "bypass proxy server for local addresses"
    7) click "OK"
    8) click "OK" to close IE settings

    Proxy setting in Internet Explorer 6.X
    1) click "Service" \ "Internet Options"
    2) click "Connections"
    3 if you use Dial-Up connection choose your connection and click "Settings" button.
    4) if you use LAN connection click "LAN Settings" button in the "Local Area Network (LAN) Settings" group box.
    5) enable "use a proxy server"
    6) in fields "Address" and "port" type proxy name/number and proxy port number;
    7) if nessesary enable "bypass proxy server for local addresses"
    8) click "OK"
    9) click "OK" to close IE settings

    Proxy setting in Netscape Navigator 4.X
    1) click "Edit" \ "Preferences"
    2) click "Category" \ "Advanced" \ "Proxies"
    3) set "Manual proxy configuration"
    4) click "View" at "Manual proxy configuration"
    5) set proxies for following protocols: HTTP, FTP, etc.

    If using firefox the switchproxy extension can be useful to easily switch from one proxy to another, assuming you have a list of working ones.

    Alternatively use a software solution like Hide IP Platinum. Which uses updated lists from their web site.
