Can I do it ?

Options
hello

As with everyone money is tight and this is what I usually do.

Go to Makro every 4-6 weeks, bulk buy chicken fillets, steak pieces, pork lion ( cut into chops ) bacon , washing poswer and toilet rolls. Usually spend £100.Then I go to Iceland and Asda in between.

I am so shocked though as I have a " grocery" bank account and when I checked yesterday it almost empty, friday is pay day so ok. when I checked had spent approx £100 in last week

We are 4 adults with an extra 2 teenagers 2 nights a week.

I HAVE HAD ENOUGH !!!! our budget is only allowed approx £70 per week.

So this morning I have went though my cupboards, fridge and freezer and have

burgers
chicken breast steaks x16
chicken fillets x18
sausages x 48
steak pieces x3
Fishfingers x 20
Chicken Gougons x 2 packets
Bacon about 1kg
pizza x3
Ham to roast
Pork chops x 8
popcorn chicken
chips
frozen peas

I also have currys sauces, bolognasise sauce, beans, tins peas, tin spaghetti, pasta, lentils etc

I have worked it out as I can make 21 meals from freezer so here is the plan, I am going to be OS for next 3 weeks. I will NOT buy food except , veg, potatoes, bread and cleaning products. We also have 2 people who take packed lunches for work so I buy about 6 packets of cooked meat a week but only buy things that are £1 a packet.

I have £70 in my grocery aco!!!! this week and £27 in cash in purse so I whatever I have left next friday will go into a "pot" so that once food runs out I can go stock up again.

I will let you know how I get on , menu is not very varied but have done it until 7th May lol This could change although basics will be the same.

Off now to sort cleaning products to see what I have.

one issue I have is 48 sausages lol I have though of hotdogs, sausage and mash, sausage stew.............lol

Suasages...a great addition to pasta sauces....I squeeze them out of the skins for quick meatballs then add to pasta with a v. light tomato sauce. A heavier tomato sauce might be better with the sausages cut into slices then made into the sauce.

I ahve always been a bit scared to use pasta sauce for anything apart from mince, thanks for ideas

You could do Toad in the Hole, provided you have flour eggs and milk...

And with the toad in the hole, slice the sausages down the length to make them go further as well ;) Sausage casserole with the sausages sliced into coins, carrots the same shape, potaotes too and onions. You don't even need to do it in the oven, we do it on top of the cooker as a one put and add gravy granules at the end, served with broccoli and cauliflower.

I skin the sausages and dry-fry the sausagemeat breaking it up as it cooks. Then I add tomato sauce and a chopped chilli and simmer for about ten minutes.

That's a good idea THIRZAH Jamie Oliver did this in his 30minute meals show, and made a pasta ragu with them, It was called Joolz Ragu or something like that, the shows are all on Youtube if anyone fancies it. :)

good on you for giving it a go,could you not perhaps buy a piece of what we used to call 'boiling bacon' I think its around £4.00 and slow cook it and then slice up for the packed lunches.Got to be cheaper than 6 £1.00 packets of cold meat, or even cook some of the bangers slowly and when cold slice to use as a sandwich filling. If I see a tin of corned beef thats on a 'special offer' (got to be a decent brand though ) I buy it ,put in the fridge to get really cold then remove from the tin, slice up into portions and what I don't use straight away I freeze in cling film portions It freezes beautifully and is so useful for sandwiches.
I make my grandsons a 'fort' with a big mound of cheesy mash in the middle of the plate surrounded by cooked bangers cut in half as the 'wooden bits' top the middle roof of the fort with baked beans and hey presto something different for the kids to eat up the bangers

Sausage Cassoulet is quite good. I do mine in the slow cooker but if you haven't got one then in a casserole dish in the oven for an hour or so should be fine.

This is another one I do. I squeeze the sausage meat out of the skin. Great for the lunchbox as well.
