My proposal:
I had it all planned to take my partner to help me take photos at Knebworth House in Hertfordshire, as I'm doing the website for a charity ball there. Due to the weather (all will become apparent soon) the venue where I wanted to propose changed to Shuttleworth Park, Old Warden.
We got there at about 5pm, and sat out on the grass in the sunshine while we "waited for my friend" to arrive as she was helping with the photos. It got to 5:45 when the Virgin Balloon van turned up that she realised I had possibly led her there under false pretences. We all helped inflate the balloon and all got it, and set off up into the glorious blue sky. When we got to 3500ft, I reached into my bag to "change the lense on my camera" but instead pulled out a small box with a ring in it.
This is where it didn't go quite according to plan, as I went to propose, the helpful pilot decided at that moment to put the burners on for a bit (they're LOUD!).....and so I waited nearly 15 seconds with the ring box open before I could ask her.
Thankfully she said yes and we had a lovely rest of flight, and now we begin the plans for our 2013 wedding!
I've never been one for good english so apologies if it didn't flow very well.
By the way, this all happened on 24th April 2011 - I'm still on cloud 9 :jIf you like my post, please click the THANKSMarrying my gorgeous partner & best friend, 4th May 2013

We had gone down to Sidmouth where his family has a holiday home by the sea. It's our first holiday and we've been together 8 months. We were lying half in the sea on the beach easter monday and he kept saying how the beach felt different (better and nicer) cos I was there. (I was his first g/f btw).
He then said " I may not seem very prepared, Will you marry me?" I was taken aback cos I was not expecting it. Took me about 2 mins to get my wits together to say yes! I knew he had spoken to my dad the day before and I'd also told him I didn't want a ring when he proposes cos I'm not a big fan of rings. I got diamond earrings instead and I love them to bits! Will wear them forever and never take them off.0 -
My boyfriend at the time (now my fiance) managed to pull off a huge surprise!
We were visiting Switzerland in July 2009 when he took me on a steam boat cruise on Lake Luzerne, then up on the cogwheel railway to the summit of Mount Pilatus where we walked to the highest point. There he got down on one knee and proposed. :T I was shocked to see that he even had the engagement ring organised - all without my knowing or guessing anything! True the ring was 3 sizes too big but none of that mattered.
In the evening we celebrated our engagement at one of the posh restaurants in Luzerne and were treated to pink caviar and champagne - this was a surprise to me as we never ordered these things and I'm left wondering to this day how they knew. The whole day was purrrrfection, the dinner was amazing, and the next day we went on a stunning rail journey across Switzerland to Montreaux. :A
We're getting married in 2 months' time in July :j exactly 2 years after getting engaged - but's that's just a coinsident.0 -
I was told I was not romantic enough anyways this got me to thinking that I needed to do something and on valentines day just gone cooked a nice meal run a hot bath with all her candles and the likes and then put a ring in the bath I could tell she found it when I heard a loud scream after the water had emtied and was more than happy that my proposal was accepted.
Im still told now though that im not romantic but I do try honest !0 -
From 29th February 2008
My mum text me reminding me us women apparently only get the chance to propose once every 4 years so I asked her what she would say if I did it seriously and she said life ain't a dress rehersal.
When I came home from work, OH was still in bed (full of cold god love him) so I managed to drag him into town cause he wanted a new PSP game of all things, so while he was getting the game I slipped into Thorntons and had "Will You Marry Me? X" iced on a plaque and hid it in my handbag.
When we got back, I asked him to sit down cause I needed to talk to him, and when I tried to talk to him I started to get all teary. All I could eventually get out of my mouth was "open the thorntons bag" and he took one look, put it down and the rest is history!

I've just come back from a week in North Wales. We're both into walking, and we walked up Snowdon - after a few stops and the 'I'm not going to make it to the top' I eventually got to the top and my OH proposed to me on the the top of Snowdon. What made it more special was the fact that it was the first time he'd been up there and it was a clear day.
He'd asked my mother a couple of weeks ago, and has had the ring since the beginning of April.
I'm all excited now, we both now need to decide on a date for the wedding and start the planning.

I love all these lovely stories!
I was proposed to on my 21st birthday (nearly 4 years ago!) in a low key way. He didn't have a ring or get down on one knee, he just asked me, but after years of saying he didn't want to get married at all it was a huge gesture! I was glad I got to choose my ring because I picked one that was completely different to the one I had in my head and I love it lol.
The really unromantic part is that since the occasion he has confessed (with tongue in cheek) that he only proposed because he couldn't think of what to get me for my birthday! Such a comedian lol :-)0 -
I meet my OH in a garden centre were we both use to work after a couple months he was dead heading the roses and claims he accidently cut a rose named "the bride" (fist rose he every give me. the rose bush is now planted in our garden!) anyway he was suggling to find the words when the boss rolls passed ablivios to his romantic gensture. I said at the time I didn't know him that well yet. he said if you ever change your mind all you have to do is ask.
a few months later we went on holiday in scotland. OH amits he was worried about me wanting a propsal and the time etc not being right. So even though it wasn't leap year I prosped to him at a place called Sweethearts abbey (there is a love story conected with the place a bit of a real life romeo and juliet tale.) we were the only ones there and made up the pretences of wanting to get a picture of him on the wall by the abbey befo re going down on one knee. It was completely soptaneous at just felt right. He still jokes that he didn't have make choice the wall being 5 foot! the next day we went for a walk along the coast he found a sea shell that was ring shaped and gave it to me as a temporary engagment ring.:kisses3: Married 29th September 20120
