Fat people are fat because they choose to consume more calories than they expend through exercise. It's pretty simple
Not always.....
I have to watch every single thing I eat or the weight will go on (to lose weight, I have to be on less than 1000 calories a day and be exercising loads), I have worked with people who had a more sedentary life than me, who sat there and stuffed crisps and chocolate all day on top of 3 meals and yet were like stick insects.
My eldest son has to have a huge amount of calories just to keep weight on, he currently has a BMI of 17 on approx 10k of calories a day, if he drops below that level of calories, he loses weight. If he starts being more energetic, he needs even more calories to keep the weight on.
Middle son however, will put weight on at approx 1400 calories a day.....even when he was doing an exercise/sports/high impact weightloss workout regime 5 nights a week!
My youngest son has what is known as a moon face due to the fact he has to take high dose steroids for his severe asthma, this obviously makes him look larger than he should be....he could get rid of the moon face if was not taking the steroids but then he would also probably be dead.
Calories going in and energy being expended is not the be all and end all, there are many different reasons for a person putting on weight, including medications or health conditions ...otherwise, how can the above be explained.
And of course, some will just overeat....but not every overweight person is like that because of over eating. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

True, but the vast majority of fat people are overweight due to overeating and nothing else.0 -

sorry singlesue but scientifically this assertion has been proved to be a load of bollox. a delusion possibly based on people's inability to judge lifestyle over a significant period, instead taking snapshots of scoffing skinnes and jogging fatties that reconciles their possibly understandable cognitive dissonance over their own inability to maintain the correct weight.
for example, if you were to witness me a couple of saturdays ago you would have found me lounged on the sofa devouring an entire box of ferrero rocher viturally single handedly (not my favourite - i find them horrendously overpackaged and the hazlenut centres disappointing predictable by my OH's iranian friends have a peculiar penchant for unfailingly bringing them as gifts). if you had observed said snapshot you would have marvelled out how i maintain my weight. however this would not paint the entire picture. the rest of my lifestyle more than compensates for such incidents of sloth.
similarly if we were to look at your activity levels and food intake over a significant period - say a year - you'd find the picture that paints perfectly in keeping with the reality of your weight . the physics of it cannot be any different. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

Scientifically, this is undeniable. Although I guess there is room for debate around the "they choose" bit as, anecdotally, some people do seem to struggle to lose weight despite appearing to make considerable effort to do so. Whilst others appear to break all the 'rules' and still never put weight on. I'm not sure why? Are these people secretly scoffing mars bars when I'm not looking?
Of course, the magic word 'metabolism' is often invoked here though I'm not sure if 'differences in metabolism' has been established as a medical fact. I do recall reading that people who are 'fidgety and restless' can burn up significantly more calories - even when sitting on a sofa! The path to enlightenment is a yellow fruit0 -
