Cancelling a 3 contract - bypassing the hard sell

I have a 30 day rolling SIM only contract with 3 and I'll be cancelling it next week to go back to o2. I'm not attached to the number so it will just be a straight cancel BUT, I know they're going to give me the hard sell and I've read a couple of threads on here where people think they've cancelled and the CS person hasn't actually actioned the cancellation and they end up with a bill.

Is it possible to by-pass the phone call and just cancel in writing? I'd send it Registered Post.

Which address would I use?

Yes you can cancel in writing. I think the address is in the terms and conditions. Its certainly not easy to find on their website.

Do I need to call them as well, or will a letter suffice?

I called them this morning to get my handset unlocked (thought they'd be more helpful if they didn't know I was going to cancel) and the CS woman was giving me the upgarde spiel. The unlock will take 48 hours apparently, so she's going to call me back. Not sure why the time lag, they did exactly the same thing (unlocking a 3 Wildfire) for my son last September while he waited. She spun me a line about having to contact the manufacturer for the unlock code. Does this sound feasible?

Just had my cancellation phone call with Three Customer Services. The bloke I spoke to knew he'd never be able to upsell me when he looked at my account and saw that i use 15 mins a month, 20 texts a month and around 250mb of internet.

He did say though, that if I wanted to follow it up in wriing, it should go to the Glasgow address:

    Three Mobile UK
    Customer Services
    PO Box 1500
    Glasgow
    G2 5ZF

I was only on the phone for 11 minutes.
