Currys faulty tv - 3 months old

Hi, we bought a 50" plasma TV from Currys on the 28th Dec. We paid £600 in the sale. Last night the picture went hazy and to cut a long story short it has been proved to the SCART inout on the TV itself having gone faulty (the online help desk agree).
They're solution?
I have to wait in from 8am to 6pm tomorrow for the TV to be collected and it could take up to 14days for it to be repaired! They have refused me an exchange and say that this is the extent of their obligation.
Surely a TV which I paid £600 for (but should have been a lot more) shouldn't go faulty in just over 3 months?
Surely I have more rights than they have offered me?

If I go to the shop can I insist they exchange it?

No you can't, they are allowed to attempt a repair. If that is not possible you should be offered a replacement or a refund.
NB: should you not be using the HDMI input if you want to get HD images on your TV?

I have checked under the SOGA and it states that if the TV goes faulty within 6 months it is deemed to have been faulty from new! It also states that @most@ shops would reasonably exchange or refund. I only want a replacement. Why should we have no TV for up to 14days??

Insist on a new one, or a refund. If you accept a repair you are in a weaker position under SOGA should something else go wrong.

As macman said, why are you using a SCART input on a 50" TV?

when one of our tv's from currys went wrong we took it into the store, they plugged tv to check we weren't lying i guess. i can't remeber excatly the problem now. but once they checked and confirmed we had a problem they said we have two choice's, choose another tv up to same value for straight swap, buy a dearer one and make up the difference or have the money back.

they were really helpful . we choose to have our money back and they gave the refund no problem's.

Even if it is faulty from new, that does not give you any automatic right to a replacement. For such a simple fault it's unlikely that the repair will take 14 days anyway, and if you ask them they will probably offer you a temporary TV in the interim.
