  • Just remember that spending now for your bf and the party is going to make you happy for a couple of days at the very most. Being in debt after for probably the whole of next year is going to make you very unhappy.
    Is it honestly worth it?

    And if I'm honest...your bf sounds like a **** to me... .
  • Your priority should be:

    1. Overdraft
    2. Car loan
    3. Phone bill (assuming it is a contract phone)

Explain to your mum and sister your financial situation and see if they are prepared to accept less money this month and you will make it up in January and February 2007.

Be honest and open with your boyfriend explain you finances cannot afford an e900. If he is a decent a human being, he will understand, say he can do without it and not mention the issue again. If he goes into a sulk or throws a tantrum than you need to think long and hard about if your really want to be with such an inconsiderate person.

NEED to go to my friends birthday party and NEED to buy a new dress for work christmas party. Both of these are optional. You do not need to do either.

My husband earns 3 times what you do and there is no way he will be spending £150 on me at Christmas. We simply can't afford it. I also will not be going out at all over Chrismas as it just costs too much. You do not need a new outfit everytime you go out! That is not living in the real world. You are not Victoria Beckham!

We got into debt because of stupid spending on things like that. Please do not do the same.

if you are insisting on going out, enjoy yourself but clothes wise i'd recommend ebay or a charity shop, they have some lovely clothes!!!

I do hope that you listen and carry out the advice that you have been given on here. Its hard and it hurts but if you dont follow the advice you will end up back on here a few years down the line with serious debts. I have seen countless posts on here from ex students who have maxed out credit cards, have whopping great big overdrafts, got store cards with riduculous interest rates, catalogue debts, borrowed from family and friends and then on top of that they still have a student loan to pay off. If you carry on it will come back and bit you on the bum. Im sorry to be harsh and I can understand that you want to look your best at the Christmas do and to be able to give your boyfriend the Christmas present that he wants but you will regret it.
I do hope you manage to have a good Christmas without going into debt for it - its just not worth it. All the best - OOPS

    Re: no clothes to wear

    1) Like others have said, look in the charity shops, you'll be amazed.

    2) Surely it is more important that you are there and not what you are wearing?

    3) If you've worn everything, then sell it on eBay and raise some cash - you sound like you need it. If you think you can't part with it then don't, wear it to the party instead.

    4) Borrow something from a friend.

    Re: phone

Get a new boyfriend. So what if he spends more on you - explain you don't have that type of cash.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.
  • Quote <Find a dress you already have, (pref long one) cut the bottom off to about thigh length, hem (or hand stitch after ironing, s'only for the one night!) voila latest season style dress AND a new look. For the rest of outfit, head to woolies for thickish tights (kids section if you are small like me!!) and then to New Look for some patent heels a bargan at £15 at mo.(& again, a staple fashion item at mo) if no New Look, Matalan/Asda have similar for £8-£12. Whole outfit should be no more than about £17.
My last tip is if you have longish hair and want a quick do.. (I swear I do this everytime I have an occasion, and usually 5 mins b4 I'm out the door...) tip head forward, pull hair into pony at crown, twist and cut in a straight line about 3 inches off end. Let loose, and voila an even layered 'new' hair do. (My bf always thinks I'm nuts doin this minutes b4 I go out the door but I swear, it works...Nicky Clarke suggested it!)>Quote

  • I think you should make him a book of vouchers - things like cook him a nice meal, wash his car, let him have the remote for the evening (!) etc... and just explain you cant afford the phone, if he loves you he will prob feel awful that you worried about it!
