How much do solicitors charge for writing up the Consent Order to send to court for approval?
Has anyone successfully done a DIY Consent Order?

To be honest I think it is worth getting a solicitor to draw up the consent order as this can come back and bite you years from now if its not drawn up properly

I used divorce-online.co.uk for my divorce, and they were really helpful. They helped me to get all the documentation in order and it was all processed pretty smoothly and quickly, I'd recommend them. It does depend on how much you can agree on between yourselves but the savings I made were pretty substantial compared to the traditional route.

I am trying to find info on this too

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentcitizensandrights/Divorceseparationandrelationshipbreakdown/Endingamarriageorcivilpartnership/Gettingadivorce/DG_193735

Been apart for nearly 3 years amicable separation, I live with the children and he sees them whenever he wants which is usually every day unless he cant. Wondering if it is worth doing this now or waiting a while longer?

Also can you change your name back to your maden name when only separated or do you have to wait till you are divorced? How much does it all cost?

No real reason why you should wait if its going to be amicable, get it over and done with then you can move on.You can change your name at anytime.

Doing the divorce yourself will cost around £400 for court costs. You should make sure you get a ckean break consent order, which should be left to a solicitor to draw up as the wording is very important

    I've been Money Tipped!
I've gone the DIY divorce route because my split was fairly amicable...or at least it evolved into amicable during the 2 year separation period.

I know a lot of people who have used websites for divorce and paid a fee to simply get the paperwork that is freely available from the courts (and to download on directgov now). There are also useful leaflets etc on directgov that walk you through completing the paperwork. Some of the sites are a bit misleading saying that you can get divorced for £99 etc...they forget to mention that you need to pay the filing costs at the court on top of that (about £300, unless you qualify for relief due to low income etc or apply for the costs to be paid by the respondent).

As an aside - I'm currently waiting for my decree absolute to turn up in the post, does anyone know how long it usually takes to arrive after the application is made??? I was told it would be processed and granted on the day of the application but I really want to have that bit of paper in my hand!
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!
