Realistic alternatives to Sky ?

OK, I like Sky and I think it offers a half decent product but I think the prices are too high and I'm coming off a 6 month 1/2 price deal and to be honest, I'm at the point where I could just tell them to stuff it and walk away.

In addition to the TV I have my phone line with them which is fine though having to pay for 0845/0870 annoys me and the internet is very stable and at the maximum I can realistically expect for my location at about 7000/700.

I like the Discovery type channels and Sky 1 and Atlantic. Many others are meaningless but the range means that there is always something to watch 24/7/365 if you are bored. I don't do movies or films or sport and they can shove paying for HD up where the sun don't shine as I truly don't see that much (if any) difference.

I would also like some other channels from Asia if I could get them. I could perhaps get a dish or motorised one if needs be. All in it has to be a competitive cost over a reasonable time period.

My TV (LG 50PK990) has a Freeview HD tuner but I don't currently connect an aerial. I can't get Freeview anyway !!! I already have a Sky dish if that can be used for anything else ???

I'd like an option to Sky, if a realistic one exists.

you wont get sky atlantic on virgin so if you want that your going to have to stick at sky.

Sky dont charge for 0870 btw as long as your inside your allowance ie if you have free evening and weekends.

out of all the channels you mentioned you can get all the channels you want for 20.50 for tv phone is probably one of the cheapest around with the broadband your only realistic option is virgin at the end of the day BT vision appears to be utter rubbish at the end of the day if you want virgin your going to be paying roughly the same ammount only thing you get more is you have to buy asian channels on your own if your on sky as they are third party(with star + star gold ect. being the only exceptions) where as virgin will sell you sony asia through themselves from what i understand.

but at the end of the day you could phone up and threaten to cancel again sky might give you another 6 months 1/2 price but realistically 40.25(if you have the phone line + standard call package + sky unlimited bb + 3pack with sky(knowledge ,style and culture ,variety)) is a pretty good deal in my opinion virgin will probz charge you roughly 43 quid that for L broadband L phone L TV which is roughly what your getting atm but as i said i think 40.25 is a fair price if you dont have any problems with sky then i dont see any problems with staying with them and trying to get that offer back to sweeten the deal if not its freesat which is basically freeview

VM's M+tv won't give you Sky Atlantic but will give you Sky 1 and some documentary channels. The triple package including the M+ is £38pm although cost of calls will be more than Sky.

There isn't really any other pay tv alternative unless you consider BT's on demand service.
