I never knew you could use standard 'plain flour'. I'll try that next time.
I normally do a mixture of 30% white and 70%wholemeal. The Doves farm yeast in the orange box isn't in Tesco anymore so i've had to switch to the little green tins of Allisons.

Plain flour usually hasn't enough gluten for a good rise I believe

Sorry to butt in ladies. Just wondering if the Lidl bread flour is only white? Or is there a wholemeal or granary version possible?

No-one in our house eats white and I would love to find a cheaper alternative wholemeal bread flour - currently using the Hovis wholemeal (which is like £1.30 ish I think).
  • all flour in tesco at 342 at the moment including bread mixes i have stocked up until at least feb/march hope this helps

Think it is only white, but you can add some wholemeal and/or loose seeds. I add 1 part Allinsons granary to 3 parts Lidl and add 1tbsp each of sunflower, pumpkin, linseed etc. Lovely nutty texture and taste!
