safety camera how long till I know I wasn't flashed?

On 30th March I took delivery of a new car and was watching my speed because it had a larger engine than my old car and it was a lot smoother.

With my old car I knew how fast I was going by the vibration and noise.

I was travelling along a dual carriageway at 50 mph, the speed limit was 50 mph, and slowly gaining on the car in front who was probably going at 45 mph.

As we approached a bend in the road the driver slowed down.

I, thinking he was just one of these drivers that slow down for every bend, pulled out to pass him, I was already signalling to do so, and briefly sped up to about 57 mph before I realised the steering wheel wasn't vibrating when I went above 50mph.

Then I found out why he slowed down from about 45 mph to about 30 mph in a 50 mph speed limit.

Just round the bend was a safety camera van.

So if I was done how long have I got before I know whether I have been done or not?

After 15 years driving the same car you don't need a speedo.

That was why I noticed that I had gone up to 57mph when I again looked at the speedo after looking where I was going.

Or do you watch the speedo every second while you are driving?

So if no letter tomorrow then I am OK?

if you were doing 57 you should be ok with the 10% +2 rule 58 and you will be done

your car speedo is set 5-10% higher as well so you might have been doing 52/53

You may learn roughly how fast you're travelling through feel and noise alone to within a certain margin, but please don't claim that you don't need a speedometer to identify whether your car is doing a recorded 30mph and not 34mph because we both know you're telling porkies.

You may think that claiming not to need a speedometer makes you sound like you're an exceptionally competent driver, but in reality it just makes you look a bit silly and would appear to land you with speeding fines...

I think he meant the old car rattled and shook whenever it got going, so he knew from that how fast he was going, not that he was an expert in any other sense.

I think he meant that in his old car he didn't require a speedo. I think he meant this because he said:

OP you have my sympathy. I used to drive a Suzuki that rattled fit to shake my teeth out above 60mph. I changed it for a Toyota and within a couple of weeks I got my first ever (and only)speeding ticket. I had simply misjudged how fast I was going because that car was a much smoother, quieter, ride.

Hence why manufacturers place a speedometer in the instrument panel directly in front of you, to remove the need to judge your speed and reduce the risk of 'misjudging' how fast you're going.

The speedometers in smoother, quieter cars will read the same at 60mph just like rougher, louder cars will.
