you can get the valuation of your house here http://lpsni.gov.uk/vListDCV/search.asp?submit=form
I don't know if private landlords pay full costs though.
As for me, no not malone, it's all retired judges and is not nearly happening enough for my tastes
plus I'd probably have a heart attack at the rates there!! I'm on the ormeau.
£2,000 rates on the Ormeau Road? Yikes. We've considered buying there (or Stranmillis/Lisburn Road) - that seems quite steep!ginger_nuts wrote: »in GB they pay council tax and the tennant is responsiable for paying it ,not the landlord .In NI the landlord get a discount for colecting the rates ,hence not relying on the tenant to pay it directly .I would prefer if the tenant paid the rates but how many would pay .The landlord has to pay in full to get the discount and I can asssure you it is a pain in the @rse .
How is it a pain in the @rse? I can't imagine that it's any more difficult than it is for anyone else.
I didn't realise about the LL discount, no wonder rates are always included in rent here. :beer:Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

its a pain in the @rse because landlords are required to pay the rates up front before the receive the money via rent .Secondly landlords are only acting as an agent for LPS .Yes landlord get a discount but still have to pay the rates if they have no tenant for a couple off months .Most landlords would prefer not to have to collect rates and leave it to the tenant to sort .£2,000 rates on the Ormeau Road? Can they not still choose to do this and forego the discount?0 -

The laws changed in 2007, whereby the majority of landlords are made responsible. the problem with tenants especially ones who were short term was nobody ever informed the rates department they were there. The landlords left it to rates to find out and tenants a lot of the time hadn't a clue. This change of responsibility allows the protection of lost revenue for councils.
I suppose the problems will arise later this year when the rating of empty homes comes into effect.0 -

I bet they would lol.Golden_Anemone wrote: »Can they not still choose to do this and forego the discount?
It would be difficult. Almost every house to let in NI has the rates included in the rent. I would certainly not rent a house if I had to pay the rates on top, unless there was a corresponding reduction in rent.Golden_Anemone wrote: »Capital valuation about £300,000.
Wow, must be a nice house.
