I'm in South Belfast too (Lisburn Rd), wonder how much the rates are on our house. Would it be nosey to ask the LL? :rotfl:

If you know roughly what the house is worth you can calculate your rates here

    http://www.dfpni.gov.uk/lps/index/property_rating/rates-calculator-2010_-_2011.htm

you can get the valuation of your house here http://lpsni.gov.uk/vListDCV/search.asp?submit=form

I don't know if private landlords pay full costs though.

As for me, no not malone, it's all retired judges and is not nearly happening enough for my tastes :) plus I'd probably have a heart attack at the rates there!! I'm on the ormeau.

Check your address on the website lpsni.gov.uk, get the capital value, then on the front page put it into the calculator with your council area, should give you the amount :T
  • Does anyone know when you have to start paying rates for a newish extension? I've had a look at the FAQ but can't find the answer. Thanks.

Does anyone know the rationale behind the 15% or 7.5% reduction in rental properties? My understanding is that this discount is offered to landlords on rental properties (15% in the case of agreeing to pay the rates for a full year even when the property is unoccupied). I actually find it quite disgusting that as a homeowner I am expected to pay in full by the first week in May to get a 4% reduction, yet landlords get until the end of September and get a 15% discount.
