barclays isa - online banking requiring current account

Hi all,
I opened a Golden ISA last week and requested online banking. Got a letter in the post today saying that my request couldn't be processed because, as a condition to use online banking, I must hold a current account with Barclays.
This was never mentioned when I set up the ISA in branch (who were obviously perfectly aware that I was a non-Barclays customer) and I've not come across this requirement before. Has anyone else had a similar problem, or alternatively got online banking access without a current account? It seems a bit ridiculous to have to open a whole new account just so I can check on my ISA every now and again.
Cheers

It says this on their website3. Online and telephone access is only available to Barclays current account holders who are registered for Barclays Online and Telephone Banking. You will need a Barclays current account and your debit card to register for Barclays Online Banking.

Sheesh, my bad.
Still, you would have thought the guy at the branch might have known this. He specifically told me that online banking had been set up on the account. Oh well.
Is this a fairly common across other banks? Not come across a requirement like this before.0 -
No I believe it's because Barclay's login requires a current account as part of their actual login process, although not 100% on this.0

It's amazing how many people who work at these banks don't know their own products - a woman at a Santander branch the other day told a customer that she could transfer into the 3.3% ISA account - I knew they couldn't and asked her to check again and she spoke to the same manager who said no you couldn't- shambles!!!!!Keep the Faith:cool:0
