  • A friend found this re the IAMS http://www.peta.org.uk/features/non-animal-tested-companion-animal-food/ :-(
So, when we have finished up what we have we will be buying this

    http://www.swellpets.co.uk/dog/dog-food-698/bulk-dog-food-1516/arden-grange-bulk-dog-food-260228.html

12 bags x 15 kg = £26 per bag which is about the same as i got the IAMS for anyway.
    Thanks for letting me know.

I didn't buy IAMS because of the adverts i brought it because, like you said, the super markets stock it. I haven't found anything recently regarding to cruelty with IAMS but then i wasn't aware of it in the first place! I will continue looking and also check out Burns range.

    Where do you it from?
    Do the supermarkets not mind?

    *edit to add*

a smart arsed comment because of a spelling error I suspect. Shame some people forget that not everyone is a perfect speller or could even be dyslexic and go for the cheap shot

Do IAMS still commit horrible acts of cruelty to animals in the name of research? If so I wouldnt buy their food however little it cost.

If you actually do some proper research you may find out that this is all some stupid exaggeration. Luckily I don't believ all the rubbish on the internet

    http://iamstruth.com/truthArticles.do?pi=RP&method=articles&articleID=6

Also don't believe what PETA put out ther either they have their own agenda and are themselves responsible for animal cruelty

Ladymarmalsde if you don't want to use IAMS go for CSJ
    http://www.csjk9.com/

Don't panic as to why it's so cheap. They keep the costs down by having minimal advertising and as it's counted as working dog food they don't have to pay VAT on the manufacture of it. Our dogs have been on it for a year mow and love it and are very healthy.

Just to add Ceri from CSJ is happy to send samples out tou you for your dog to try.

Our guys are on CSJ champ which is £10.45 for 15 kg. A bag lasts one dog (a lab) nearly 3 months. The food has no additives or stuff to bulk it out and is very high quality.

Im sure if it was total rubbish the companies lawyers would have ordered the pages be taken down, after all, plenty of lesser statements have been made on this website and subsequently removed due to the company being berated claiming libel! Iams are unlikely to admit to what they do on their own website (which you posted), and that website doesnt actually refute most of the statements on the cruelty websites, eg. Removing chunks of dogs muscle. There are published reports of this cruelty from UK daily newspapers. There would have been legal retribution against these publications if the stories were untrue.

I also remember at the time of it being "unearthed" an article was released from IAMS stating they would stop the practices. Hence why I included the portion of my initial reply that it may not still be continuing.

Either way, I wouldnt feed Iams due to its content and its brand history. What the OP chooses to do is entirely up to her.

I have never heard of CSJ and I cant see the ingredients listed on the site anywhere, and as it is for working dogs I would not feed it to my pet dogs as they arent as active as working dogs, and feeding working dog food to pet dogs can cause obesity. This is in no way a indication of the quality of CSJ as I have not tried it and do not know its ingredients.

RE Peta, I dont support them. They think nobody should have pets as its "animal exploitation" and so many of its members are entirely blinded to the organisations own true beliefs. Im aware PETA kill pet animals surrenderred to them rather than rehoming them and I think its disgusting.
  • Thanks Oliver14. I shall check that food out as well. Even if IAMS aren't being cruel anymore i don't want to give them any money when i can buy other food that hasn't been associated with cruelty for the same price. I am also intending to email them to tell them of my upset and why i won't be using them anymore. I believe if they hadn't got caught they would still be doing the same.
This whole thread has opened my eyes to something that i really didn't want to see but am grateful was brought to my attention. I am sure many others are the same....

And if you want to be picky please make sure you construct your sentences correctly. Your first question doesn't make any sense whatsoever!

    Where do you it from????
