IAMS, fantastic customer service

Just wanted to let people know that i got 4 x 3kg bags of IAMS for free with the initial stages of Tesco's double the difference fiasco however when i fed it to my dogs it made them sick! I was very worried that there was something wrong with it so i phoned IAMS up and they took the batch number to check it out. They also refunded me £10 and spoke to me a little about my dogs diet and IAMS food itself.
I came off the phone so pleased with their customer service i wanted my dogs to be ok on it. Anyway, they called me back the next day to tell me that they had checked the batch and it was fine.
Since then i have read the back of the bag and realised i was feeding my dogs far too much so have tried again with the recommended amounts and now they are fine. I have also just brought 60 kg for £103 from here http://www.swellpets.co.uk/dog/dog-food-698/iams-dog-food-876/iams-adult-large-breed-dog-food-28121.html and it was delivered the next day. Given you give them half as much as other cheaper brands it only works out slightly more expensive for my rottie and staffy X than the Wagg did. They also have less poo now as well.
Just wanted to share that with you all for anyone that has large or lots of dogs and is on a budget. :-D

Do IAMS still commit horrible acts of cruelty to animals in the name of research? If so I wouldnt buy their food however little it cost.

Obviously i wasn't aware of this!
However, when i googled "IAMS makes my dog sick" i did see some cases of people saying that it had made their dogs very ill which is why i phoned customer service in the first place. I was very worried. I didn't see any recent ones though.
I have posted the same link on another dog forum and i feel quite sure they will let me know if this is the case then i shall post on here.
I most definitely do not want to recommend a product that is cruel to animals.

You were right to let them know, incase there was something amiss. Im pretty sure the practise of these horrific tests still continues, obviously its well hidden with the "I am an Iams dog" ads, its such a shame.

I feed my dogs burns food, which I find is a quality food at a reasonable price, its just not so easy to pick up as supermarkets dont sell it. Im not sure there is anything in tesco I would feed my dogs.

applaws, orijen, royal canin are some of the other brands I would feed. A lot of people like james wellbeloved but I think it a bit overpriced for what it is. Burns will send you a sample if you email them, its a very high quality diet, you can see it in my dogs coats and general health.
  • I didn't buy IAMS because of the adverts i brought it because, like you said, the super markets stock it. I haven't found anything recently regarding to cruelty with IAMS but then i wasn't aware of it in the first place! I will continue looking and also check out Burns range.

I second how brilliant Burns is. I used to order it direct from their website, think it was free delivery too. A 15kg bag used to last my GSD for 6 wks. His black coat was shiny, he was healthy and I didn't have to pick up lots of poo.
    :hello:

Iv got a £5 off voucher (when you buy 7.5kg or bigger) for burns you are welcome to if you like lady marmalade.

Aww thanks that's really sweet of you. I have just googled Burns cruelty and seen that it's ethically one of the best you can get and holistic too however now i have 60 kg of IAMS to get through and i can't afford to just bin it.
I definitely don't want to buy food from somewhere that is cruel to animals and i am amazed that a 15kg bag lasted a GSD 6 weeks!
That's less than a tenner a week and definitely affordable.
I was feeding them Wagg with Fish 4 Dogs Salmon Mousse mixed in OR sardines if i run out of Salmon Mousse but i felt guilty because Wagg is dead cheap and i did notice a bald patch on Vinnies elbow. When i googled it i noticed Wagg can cause bald patches hence the change.
    JWB made Vinnie REALLY poorly.

Wagg is mostly junk. There are too many sugars and fillers in most of the "common" brands.

If you want to change to a different brand I would suggest buying a small amount of a new food eg burns, or even better ask them for a sample pack, and make sure to introduce it properly, just adding a small amount to the iams increasing daily the amount of new and decreasing the iams until eventually your feeding just the new food, that should avoid tummy upsets.

I have not heard of any problems with burns being tolerated. I feed my dogs it and wean all my puppies on it, and send the pups with a bag of the food and vouchers to buy more, hence how i can send you one ( I have a spare as they sent one too many vouchers) Its a very light and nutritional food. One of my dogs has a very dicky tum, she cant have treats or chews as they give her diarrhoea, and shes been fine on burns.
