Used sold as new?

Hi all,

I recently bought a new mobile from an online retailer. I say 'new' but it transpires that in the gallery are photos and a video of a young child - clearly the phone has been used and returned for some reason. I'm a little concerned on two levels: firstly, I was sold a 'new' phone that has quite clearly been used by at least one person, and secondly, it doesn't fill me with confidence regarding the retailer's ability to keep confidential details, ... well, confidential.

Anybody else experienced this sort of scenario?

  • Yes, I experienced the same thing when I got my Blackberry some time ago. There were videos and pictures belonging to somebody else.

After speaking to a few friends and found that it is quite common.

Maybe the staff of the phone companies get to test out the phones first and then sold them on again? Like a display model?

I had the same experience with CPW, the handset I got actually had a SIM in it although it was apparently a dummy SIM, but there was photos taken in store on it, I did query it, but they shrugged it off, unfortunately I didn't press the issue as it turned out to be the worst phone I ever purchased.

Tell them you want a new phone, if that's what you paid for.
