Hello. We have a hatchback which is good and fine for the four of us but when the parents visit we cannot squeeze in.

Is there such as thing as a detachable extra seat to use in the boot when needed? The boot is quite large.

Thanks in advance!

The parents only visit once a year, and there are not many new cars with 6 seats anyway...

It would probably be worth looking at hiring a 7-seater for the odd occasion you need it, would probably work out cheaper in the long run ?

Ever seen what happens to a boot when the car gets rear ended? Its the crumple zone and I wouldn't want to be a passenger in that. You won't find any extra seat anywhere from a manufacturer that wants to stay in business and not be responsible for killing its passengers.
Look at how seats are mounted, every car is different and they have to be able to stand up to the forces of massive decelleration without moving. You can't get that from a one size fits all product.

OP - think about it. How would the 'detatchable' seat bolt down securely? Where would you conjur up a seatbelt for it? Some cars have this extra functionality (Peugeot 307 SW springs to mind) but they're designed that way. You can't just throw a deck chair in the back and hope for the best.... reminds me of a top gear feature - think it was James May with a wooden decked out floor.

    Anyway.... it's a non starter!

Why, I saw such cars - in fact, there were two extra seats in the boot and they were removable.

True, it was in a Mercedes dealership - but does brand have anything to do with it?

It was a 7 seater with seats designed to fit in the car, meet required safety standards and be removable. Standard practise for 7 seaters.

They're not some bolt-on universal thing :rotfl:

Out of interest what kind of car do you have at the moment?
