I think you have all mistaken poor use of English and bad grammar, for a troll. I will assume the OP means that it was six years ago that they had the car, not that they have had the car for six years.
WRONG - Read this sentnence from the original post:

"No previous contact has been made by themselves as to the car being ready for collection and we still live in the same house and same telephone number."

They state the garage has not told them its ready for collect them means the garage still has the car. Maybe the invoice is for storage charges.

  • I'll paraphrase it.
In 2005 I booked my Lotus into a garage for some repairs. The garage agreed to carry out the work and bring the car up to road worthiness.

I went to the garage numerous times and there appeared to be no work being done to it. I believed it was being used for spare parts as it is a rare car.

I took the car away from the garage without paying for their non-existent work.

After 6 years of having the car in my possession and no contact from the garage, they have asked for payment of works carried out via a solicitor. They never contacted me to tell me that the car was ready for collection, I just turned up and took it as there was no work done!
That is surely what the OP means, because nobody would leave a Lotus in the possession of a garage for 6 years!
