selling paintings (Auction Hose or eBay)

I have a few old painting which I might sell.

There is actually an auction house in the town I live, but wondering if this would be the best option ...

Would eBay be a better bet ... surely more people would see the paintings here.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've sold a few antique paintings on eBay but I find that actual dealers / galleries who specialise in what you've got give the best prices - no fees to pay and some even pay you with PayPal!
A general auction house may not be the best place either unless they have specialist, catalogued fine art sales.

Are your paintings signed or attributable ???

You can't really sell it on Ebay unless you know what it is, its approximate date and so on. I would try a local auction house. They would tell you what they thought it was and an idea of its value which could help you decide how to sell it.

Last eyar I bought lots of painting from a B and M auction house as they were mega cheap, a pound or two each and planned to sell them on ebay. However my cunning plan backfired as I could not find a courier that would carry them insured at all. In fact most refused to even carry anything with a glass front.

The good news was that I turned over most of the painting for a couple of pounds at a car boot and made a profit!

As others have said it's difficult to tell from what you have said. You could try your local auction house to see if they have any knowledge (a lot of salerooms have free valuation days), also if they have their catalogues listed online this would be an advantage.
Then again they could be worthless, there's a million things an "old painting" could be, from a piece of tat to worth £100million;)

There again, Damien Hirst has managed to make a career out of selling pieces of tat for up to £100million - so aim high!
