time to change?

am sorry if this is in wrong forum but i am trying to cut costs of running house since husband leaving and was horrified to realise we were paying £63 a month for sky plus in one room and normal sky in another. i think broadband is included in that but no one in house seems very sure. guess that teaches me to hand over reins to someone else when too ill to handle myself. i tried looking into cutting cost and even did the ring sky and plead poverty and got it reduced for 3 months. unfortunately that period is over now and need to cut back. am sure there is a cheaper deal out there somewhere but it is so confusing. i am paying £35 a month to BT (was £15 but they hiked it up due to last bill) but am sure could get them to reduce it again. what i need is sky plus in my room or equivalent, have movies now but could do without it (not the new movies channel but the one that shows the oldies. that bit i have in 2 rooms. keep getting mail and charge for going over our broadband limit which i think means £6.99 extra although that could be in my £63.00 (told you was confused :o) dont need/want to change mobile. am hoping someone out there can advise me to which package i should get from virgin as i think they are offering a better deal. have 8 seperate mailings from them showing different deals and from what i can gather i could get the £20 a month one that does phone, broadband and sky but cant find out how much extra it would be for the extras that i now have and want to keep as many as possible. thanks for hanging in and reading even if you cant help

I'm not exactly sure what you receive for £63. Is this the Sky entertainment packs, Sky Sports and Sky Movies plus a 2nd STB? Which movie channel is it that you watch?

If the VM offer for £20 is the same I received a leaflet for then the offer price of £20 is based on you taking tv, bb plus land line from VM but the price does not include the cost of the land line. You will get M+ tv which is very basic and you cannot record using the V box given. You will have to pay £5 extra for the recording function plus a further £6.50 for the extra V box. The £20 offer is only based at people wanting the bear minimum so probably no good for you.

Instead of looking at what you have received from VM, go to their website and they allow you to build your own package and quote you the price.

"Homealone" opened the thread by clearly explaining that due to her husband leaving, she therefore wants to reduce household costs. That seems like a perfectly sensible approach to take under those circumstances and should not exempt her for being able to take on pay television. The TV companies such as Sky and Virgin Media fortunately have packages available to suit individuals on varying financial budgets.

In the current economic climate of austerity, I'm sure that there are a growing number of individuals who are facing tighter budgets and there's no reason as to why they should not be able to enjoy pay TV entertainment as they can always change their subscription according to what their financial budget will accommodate for.

"homealone" there are many great deals out there to be made for selecting tv packages particularly if you combine TV with phone and broadband. You will find greater discounts offered for combining those services with one company. Some companies offer more than others, shop around and look for the best deals. Most of the Pay TV companies let you add the services that you want in a basket and let you see how much you will spend each month before buying. So add/deselect in the media companies baskets and visit all the competitors and grab the best deal for you!

thank you ituk for your support. yes my budget obviously has decreased massively. not just because of his income but also that he left me with a lot of bills for credit cards etc (things we could afford on our income and was swapping deals with 0% interest, before anyone says why did i get myself in debt, i didnt) however saying that, i am disabled with limited mobility due to my back. i then had surgery on my knee so am even more of a recluse than before. this is why i have pay tv. i spend 24 hours a day in my bedroom and without the frequent hospital visits i rely heavily on the tv to get me through the long painful nights when i have no one that i can turn to for a cuddle or a cry on a shoulder. am not trying to get sympathy or feeling sorry for myself just wanted to say no one knows what things are important to what people.
getting back to the tv thanks i will i think go through the shopping basket route and hopefully can save some money although the package may cost similar to what i am paying now it will probably include more such as land line etc thanks again

Another suggestion - you probably already have inbuilt freeview why not look at getting a freesat box so you have no ongoing costs. It really bugs me to keep giving these companies money month in month out if you don't actually watch all the programmes.

Might not get as many channels but it might be worth a look. If you decide on this do some shopping around obviously. good luck with it all.
I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!
