upvc door lock not working

Hi

I came home this morning and tried to unlock the door. The key wouldn't turn so I had to lift the handle up quite high. Once opened the handle was quite floppy nd the door would not close. I managed to get it to close, however, now it won't lock. When lifting the handle to lock it does not make the clicking sound that it usually does. The key will only move about 1mm then it gets stuck. Any ideas as to what could be wrong and how much roughly to fix??

many thanks

Have you tried removing the cylinder (assuming it's a eurolock?). Is it a multipoint locking door? Have you tested the locking mechanism with the door open?

how do u remove the cylinder? I don't want to make it any worse then what it is. I don't know what a multilocking door is. Ive opened the door and tried locking but it still didnt work. If i move the buttons on the side of the door wen its open all of the locks come out apart from the one which is operated by the key. if that makes sense.

If you're not sure what to do then it might be worth calling a locksmith (could get a bit pricey though but you might not have a choice).

I had a quick look on Youtube and there's video showing how to remove and replace a eurolock, I'm not sure if this would be of any use to you...

The cylinder is held in place by a small screw, the first minute of the video explains what to do.

The main reason for doing this is to find out if the eurolock has jammed or the door locking mechanism has broken.

Could possibly be due to the key being damaged so it's not engaging the eurolock properly, or a foreign object has somehow got into the eurolock? (or you're using the wrong key?)

If the rest of the door locking mechanism is working then it sounds more like a problem with the eurolock... bit difficult to say exactly without having a look at it. Did the door handle floppiness go away?

the right key has been used. The floppyness is still there and when the handle is lifted it does not click like it normally does.

With the door open, if you move the handle up and down does it move any of the pins (or rollers? or hooks?) on the side of the door? Seems like this has possibly jammed?

Possibly needs a new multipoint lock gearbox then, what should happen is that the door handle engages the door locking mechanism and then the eurolock cylinder locks the gearbox. If the handle is floppy then it's not engaging the door locking mechanism (and you won't be able to use the eurolock because the door itself won't lock).

Is there anything on the side of the door (where the locks, pins, hooks, etc. are) that says who the manufacturer is?

Try placing a key in each side. We had a similar problem and the locks had been knocked out of alignment.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I do could with some advice as well please. My back door still locks but the handle on the outside is also 'floppy' now and needs tightening up in some way?

    Thanks
