Mine expires mid May and my renewal form came in the post 2 weeks ago. I'm not trusting them with my current photocard licence so I ticked the lost box.

    I can't renew online.

I chopped my old photocard licence and paper counterpart into many pieces before sending it back to the DVLA, my new licence arrived about 2 days after applying online and before I sent the old one back.

I won't be chopping it up until the new one arrives. I don't want to get a letter saying they have no record of my entitlement to drive - here is a new provisional licence.

Which I've read about in the past.

Also be wary of your driving entitlement, I've heard on some other places people getting their new card in with different entitlement's than the one that just finished, it's things like van with trailer and the likes that have been omitted from some people's licence's.
Thanks to all the competition posters.

i lost entitlement to drive any motorcycle (passed the m/c test 20+ years ago.)

complained to dvla who said yeah, yeah, so you say..

dvla said if you want your m/c entitlement reinstated, then show us the proof, e.g. your pass certificate from late 80s (couldn't even remember the year, even less the date)

by some amazing stroke of luck, i found a photocopy of the (paper) licence stuffed in a royal jubilee mug.

i had made the copy before sending licence for updating after moving house few years earlier.

the photocopy of old licence clearly showed m/c entitlement and pass date, although i wondered how easily i could have doctored the entitlement using photoshop.

after much dvla huffing and puffing, a wait of god knows how many months, i got the m/c entitlement reinstated with no explanation

    requested apology.. never got it.

the dvla is a dirty joke (like the tvla, both flea-ridden outfits are run by crapita. much of their document handling is done in india, probably breaching data protection directive)
