Best Small Business Current account

I have a business current account with NatWest. Works ok - no probs.
I do get small charges, and they pay no interest on balances.

Anyone suggest a good interest bearing current account? I need On Line facilities.

Thanks

I've used Abbey for a while now and am pleased with them. Advantages no charges unless you pay in a lot of cheques each month and pays some interest. Disadvantages you are not allowed to pay in over the counter but need to pay in through Abbey cash machines. Problems can be dealt with by phone and the internet banking is good.
  • This question has been asked quite a few times and normally we get people replyng abbey. No fees (there are limits), not bad interest but no branch to call your own. A & L I hear are good too and seem to be a good alternative if you want the branch option etc. I use abbey and I am very happy.

RBS Business banking direct are pretty good. Pay decent interest on their deposit account, it's an internet account so you can see all your stuff online. You send cheques by prepaid envelopes. Works most of the time (although I've had one batch go missing in the post this last week). No charges for all the normal paying in, writing cheques stuff.

Their customer services are crap. I've moved to Abbey - they seem much better.

Or just pay fees for god sake, there there for a reason so they make money and provide you with a support manager and other services. You might think that your personal account is free, but its not, you end up paying for it in the end.
    Kind Regards

not much moneysaving here - discovered Abbey pay me 4% on my balance..... thats 4% more than Natwest. Plus no charges for life -

may be time for a name change Bill?

thanks everyone - investigated Abbey and filled the form in tonight!

In seven years I have not had a situation where having a branch would have made any difference. We were with Barclays for a free year, threatened to leave and then got a 6 month extension and then moved to Abbey. Barclays fees were considerable and I didn't feel there was any benefit in their service. If the phone or internet service is good I can't envisage a situation where being able to go to a branch would be superior.

A & L customer service in my experience is OK, not great, just OK, the interest bearing savings account is one of the better ones at I think about 4.25% at the moment.

Just trying to open an A&L Business Account AND a merchant account. I'm kind of underwhelmed by their service so far. They quote 20 working days to get the business current account set up and a similar length of time to set the merchant account up! AND they can't do them concurrently!!

Thought we were in the 21st century and all the checks could be done electronically and quickly!:confused:

I'm looking at other accounts now while the A&L one's being processed.
