He is - to write such an inaccurate, and misleading, story. Real Daily Wail stuff !
To say: "An updated directive is being worked on, although it is not expected to become law for at least another year." is sheer rubbish - a Directive IS NOT a Law
An EU Directive is just that, a Directive - NOT a Law, it carries no legal weight whatsoever.
It directs member states of the EU to introduce Laws that comply with the directive - unless they already have Laws in place that equal or exceed the requirements of the Directive.
UK Governments have stated that they believe that The Sale of Goods Act meets the requirements of this Directive - this have been accepted by the EU and has never been challenged.
Perhaps Mr Ward should do some research first he writes such drivel..............0 -

He didn't write it. The article was written by Miles Brignall, and was about Mr Ward who successfully used the EU directive to get Tesco to give him a new TV after 18 months.
No action was taken to implement the directive, given that consumer protection in this country exceeds the 2 years.0 -

The EU directive has not been implemented given that consumer protection in this country exceeds the 2 years.
Or Tescos wanted him out the store after a "long and ugly stand off" in which he ranted about irrelevant EU directives, he might have also demanded a pound of straight bananas whilst he was in there.0 -

...a total contradiction !
He obviously didn't use the directive, he browbeat the supplier into submission - which is fair enough - but to claim the EU directive gave him the victory is totally incorrect !0 -

Ok, then I must submit to your superior knowledge, and intellect.
Or, just maybe you're wrong on several counts and can't admit it.0 -
Hi all,
Thank you for your responses, much appreciated.
Well... I have tried numerous different angles and the only way around it is to pay Currys the £60 fee and get them to look into it. I have made several calls to them and after being on hold for 20 mins at a time, each time (0844 number) i finally managed to book the TV in for collection, the call lasted 43 minutes as they were having probs, firstly could not accept my card so had to use my credit card and then they could not get a deliver date. They finally managed to get one but not untill 27th Apr!!
I mentioned to the person on the phone how appalling the service is, the fact my TV has gone after 17mths and now have to pay £60 for a service which is appalling, 3 weeks it will be without a TV when they collect it, then god knows how long till they do the report/repair and redelivery! Glad to know the £60 fee is going towards a great level of customer service....NOT.
Think i will be writing a letter of complaint but i dont hold out much hope on getting a reply.0 -
You mention that it's an LG - not a problem with the power supply, is it? We had to return our 37LH2000 recently as it started turning itself off instead of coming out of standby, requiring a complete power off/on at the mains to re-start. Apparently it's a known fault with a capacitor in the PS (or something like that!) Thankfully it was only 11 months old and Asda Direct took it back without question.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

No, the TV seems to power up but theres no picture. The TV does turn itself off after 5 mins or so but this is the power saving feature we have on there.0

Its only 17 inch stick it in your car and take it to your nearest Currys and kick up a stink in store,Saturday will be busy so let other customers know the score.0

Where di dthe 17" come from mackemdave? Its a 46" actually, but thats irrelevant.
I did end up taking it to the store, kicked up a bit of a fuss and was ushered out the back with the TV! the manager said he would look into it personally, i doubt that very much though. Also had a call yesterday from the Currys collection team, we are at your house to collect the TV! I dont think these people know what they are doing.0
