Just curious what other people's opinions are on this.
I was speaking to a friend of mine last night and we were chatting about our pets, she then mentioned to me that a woman had been knocking on her door looking for her cat that was missing. My friend said she'd seen the body of a cat that matched the description on the side of a busy road that was fairly close-by. She didn't tell the woman this as she said, "I didn't want to upset her - surely it's better for her to think the cat's found a new home somewhere."
I had to admit I was a bit torn as I think as upset as I would be I would still want to know. Was thinking about it last night and wondering if I should call her back and say I think she should ring the woman up and say what she's seen - I mean it might not even be the same cat. Would you want to know?

I personally would want to know, otherwise you'll always be wondering and worrying. I would imagine all sorts (I have a vivid imagination!)
At least you can accept what's happened to your pet and start grieving.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

I'd want to know as well. Otherwise I would keep looking and hoping. When my cat went missing a couple of months ago, I was just worrying where she could be and just wanted to know.
Turns out she was in my locked garage. I still don't know how she got in there.0 -
Yes without a doubt.

But I supposed it depends on what sort of person that you are I'm generally very realistic and I would rather know the truth however bad than be left forever wondering so I could then deal with it. Although maybe for some people that would be too much and they would rather think that the cat had just wandered off somewhere else - sort of like blissful ignorance?"Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's

I'd rather know. It's worse not knowing; imagination can be a terrible thing..0

I'd rather know, but I'd struggle to tell someone the news - one of the reasons I could never have been a vet. I'd rather drop a note in their door later. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Definitely would want to know. One of my friend's cats disappeared and she never found out what happened to her, it was horrible. I would much rather know my cat was dead than have no idea what had happened to him.0

Absolutely, it may not be a nice ending admittedly but nor is searching for ever & never knowing what happened.
Why do some people think they can just "play god" like this?

I would want to know. The woman could have checked the cat out to see if it was hers and if it was perhaps she would want to bury it at home?
Not a piece of news I would like to give someone though.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0
