Car Hire Questions

Hi, just looking for some helpful advice...
I have free car hire included in my James Villas pre-booked holiday. The rep mentioned that when I collect the car, the car hire people (Hertz) will need to have a credit card on file just incase.
I mentioned that I don't have any credit cards (process of repairing credit due to a previously completed IVA). She mentioned that Hertz would except a deposit payment of 650 Euros when I pick the car up, to cover this instead. Should I have any worries doing this?
On Martins car hire page it mentions, not to get a nasty sting on the credit card when you return home; make sure all docs are signed before leaving the returned car. But I can't seem to find many tips/advice on the cash deposit side of things. If anyone has any other detailed pointers like checking over the car etc, that would also be great!
Thanks!

Can't help with Hertz's policy on cash deposits - but for checking the car over - they should give you a form with diagrams of all sides of the car with any scratches, dents, chips in the windscreen etc shown. When you pick the car up check there are no other dents etc otherwise they may charge you for them. Take pictures of them with your phone.0 -
It is accepted common practice to pre authorise a credit card as a form of guarantee/security.
The other thing is that it is likely that your included car hire will not include full CDW protection so you will be offered this as an extra so that you have zero excess. You can buy your own car hire excess policy in the uk probably cheaper. And the final hurdle..the refuelling policy. The right and honest thing to do is to be allowed to return the car with the same amount of fuel as when you collected it. Some robbing car hire cos try to charge you for a full tank at pick up and want you to return it empty. Europcar agencies try this despite it not being in their T&Cs. Apart from that europcar must have the most rubbish customer service i have ever come across.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

It may be worth seeing if they would allow any other member travelling, who may have a card, to put the rental in their name to avoid the cash deposit and just leave an imprint instead. This card deposit is standard - have you thought about a prepaid card?0
