All your gf needs is a little stability in her life to right her credit record...Get her to live in the same place for a couple of years, have a couple of years of incomings - and the score will heal itself, even of all the damage she's done to it with these bonkers (and fraudulent) applications.

The main issue for her now is how to get a mobile phone - and the advice above should do the trick :)

three do a blackberry £179.99 , carphone warehouse have them with some good deals also. no credit tariff plus £5 amonth. As above becarefull as you can land a cifas flag
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • hope this is in the right place

dont waste your money on a credit score

credit is hard to come by these days, but your bank should be the first place to ask

Not sure why but if she has a bank debit card with £1 on it then if she goes to Phones4U and buys a phone on contract then she will probably pass the credit check. They appear to just take £1 out of your bank account to check it is current. My friend who had a poor credit rating got one this way as has my sister in law

First they came for the crack users; but I said nothing. I was not a crack user. Then they came for the heroin users. But I said nothing - I was not a heroin user. Then they came for me. There was no one left to speak for me. (after Pastor Niemoller)

What provider did she try with?

I mean anybody can see the problems here

    1. No credit history
    2. No permanent address
    3. Self employed for only 6 months
    4. No electoral roll details
    5. Several credit searches
    5. She probably now has a fraud warning on her file.

All that said though, O2 gave me 3 iPhone contracts over the space of 1 year with pretty poor credit and not on the electoral roll. No other network would touch me. I even went into Phones 4 U and the bloke was so desperate to sell me a contract he tried every provider and they all came back declined except O2.

Don't bother with phone contracts, They're a waste of money, I regret taking one out because I'm tied to it for 24 months (phones obviously become outdated after lets say 6 months) and the amount of Pay as you go deals that completely trump any phone contract makes having a contract worthless really.

So, Save yourself some pounds and get a pay as you go phone for now !

Nonsense. It can work out very well. Plenty of discussion on deals in the mobile phone forums.

Last July I got an HTC Desire + 900mins to UK mobiles + 500 texts + unlimited internet + unlimited landline + paper billing + OK not to pay by DD for £30 a month. 18 month contract. I generally pay one to two months late after my billing date. So up to 3 months credit.

No PAYG deal could match that. Already half-way through the deal and I'm sure I'll be just as happy with the the phone for the next 9 months.

Another issue (for me, though probably not for most), whilst I don't generally use the phone overseas, I do need it to work. In some Asian locations, UK PAYG phones are not reliable or tend to get blocked pretty quickly.

Surely this is going to royally screw up your credit file, having an account which is regularly in arrears?

Didn't think of that as I put the account in my Ltd. company's name. The same deal was available to me personally. Not sure how long you get in this case before it is marked as late - they seem to give you a couple of weeks on the bill to pay so on that basis you get 2 to 6 weeks credit on calls depending on when you make them.
