Only a couple I can help with :

    Ground Turkey - Turkey Mince
Butter Finger Bars - bar consists of a flaky, orange-colored center— similar texture to crisp caramel, with a taste similar to peanut butter—that is coated in compound chocolate.
    1 Quart - 2 pints
    1/2 pint - 1 cup

Shortening to me is something like TREX like a solid fat

Ps - I love the Duggers too :T

    Hi jcr,

    Shortening is fat or lard.
A quart is two pints or 32 fluid oz

I can help with a couple of bits:

    ground turkey is minced turkey

one cup is just under half a pint

tater tots, according to wikipedia is a brand name fro hash browns, you can find those in most supermarket frozen sections

for the measurement conversions, try doing a google for "weight conversion" you get a list of sites, have a poke around and you will probably find what you're looking for

    hope that helps!
good luck with the cooking and let us know how you get on!

Tater tots are smaller than standard hashbrowns though, they're like mini cylinders of hash browns. Morrisons sell something very similar, I think they're called potato crunchies and are about £1 a bag, maybe a bit less and are usually on some sort of 2 for some other amount offer.

ah thankyou everyone. i think with the duggars you love or hate them, lol. i def love them.

with the butter fingers wonder if i vould use maybe a snickers bar?

the tater tots looks more smaller than hash browns more like mini potatoe cruniches thinking about it. so maybe i need to do some adapting.

i asked about quart as they did a lasgane in a slow cooker with said was a 5 quart one. my one is a 6.5 litre one ( well one of them ,lol) and it easily hold 10 pints , so i guess i could do it in there.

i've got trex in, i didn't imagine it would be somethign simple like that.lol

i might google the ice cream sandwiches see what i come up with. the pudding looks bizzare yet somewhat very scrummy.

I dislike them. The food they eat is full of convenience food, tinned that, processed this. It seems odd to have such values of conservative dress, home schooling, moral codes and then fill their children full of additives and e numbers. To be so subdued in most areas and so excessive in others (ie they number of children they have)

Hi Jcr, my hubby is American so can tell you some of them...

    A cup is 279ml.

Butterfingers is a nut and toffee bar with a chocolatey coating. Almost like a slightly softer peanut butter flavoured Crunchie. I'm struggling to think of something similar over here.

Tater tots are mini potato croquettes, texture is somewhere half between a hash brown and a potato waffle

Patchwork cat, I would say that for most people in the area of America my hubby is from, the eating lots of processed food is a normal way of life. That's what there is in the shops and it's seen as normal. Not for everyone, but for a lot of people. It's really not questioned at all.

Never heard of the recipes in question, but re cups...instead of tryig to convert if you are going to cook in cups I'd buy a measuring cup...they are easily available and don't have to be expensive. A lot of my cookery books are American, and so are many of my childhood comfort foods so cups are second nature to me.;)
