i have a nice set of ceramic cup measures that were a new house pressie . i have never used them - i have a few recipies that use cups and i use an old tea cup my late nan gave me for the purpose - she passed on an old family recipe (could not afford scales) and gave me a cup from a teaset that had had several breakages.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. Hands up to my not having read the thread yet, but if I don't post now I'll only go & forgetSo many apologies if this is covered earlier....
Are US measures = to ANZAC measures too would you know? Only with MSE now becoming a world-wide phenomenon, I've noticed several recipes from our antipodean friends appearing.

I have 2 American recipes I want to try - one says to use 1 cup of Oleo and the other says I stick of Oleo......is Oleo some kind of margarine or butter?
Great thread btw!0 -
it's a margarine
I think the cup measure is for is melted margarine? A standard stick is half a cup.

Great thread btw!
Oleo is a hard margarine; you can just use margarine or butter.
((((1 cup = 1 stick = 8 ounces))))
The bit above in brackets is wrong - I should have woken up properly before posting. 1 stick = 1/2 cup = 4 ounces.0 -

most of the answers on here http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080305205537AAEKQtU say that a stick of Oleo (rather than other margarine or butter) is equivalent to half a cup0 -

Yep, sorry, you're right. I shouldn't answer questions before I've eaten my breakfast.
1 stick = 4 oz = 1/2 cup. I'll edit my previous post to correct it so it doesn't end up confusing anyone who does a search for info.
