Apologies if you all already know this but in this month's Prima there is a chart for American/British recipe conversions - I found it useful:
1 stick butter, margarine or lard = 100g/31/2 oz
1 cup caster or granulated sugar = 225g/8oz
1 cup soft brown sugar = 200g/7oz
1 cup grated cheese = 125g/4oz
1 cup uncooked rice = 200g/7oz
1 cup icing sugar = 125g/4oz
1 cup dried fruit = 150g/5oz
1 cup any liquid = 250ml/8fl oz
1 cup flour = 125g/4oz
I haven't bought Prima for ages but it was quite a good read - not as good OS as Woman's Weekly though!!!Jane

Very likely, if you measure different SETS of measuring spoons (ie, different manufacturers) you'd find they vary.
I do know that in America, 1 tbs = 3 tsp, if that's any help to you.:beer:0 -
I think the biggest discrepency comes from using "eating" cutlery to measure rather than actual measuring sets. Teaspoons bought as "normal" cutlery vary immensely, whilst a "standard" teaspoon is simply 5 mls. Same goes for tablespoons. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0

Hi
Can anyone help me ? MFIL coming for supper tonight, I am going to make Chicken Korma but the ingredients are in American measurements. What is the equivalent of 1 cup of yogurt?
Thanks !!!0 -

The thing that you have to look out for in American measurement is that the American pint is only 16 oz not 20 oz as in UK.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0
