Unemployment Rate falls to 7.8% from 8%.

That corresponds with public sector cuts ( I believe over 70% of the public sector are female) and possibly an increase in manual and manufacturing labour (traditional male jobs)
I saw that. Maybe if male employment has increased there are a number of women who now no longer feel the need to work.0 -

Surprise fall in inflation? Surprise fall in the numbers of unemployed? At last - some economic surprises that don't have me grinding my teeth

Let's hope that this is the start of a trend of less hateful surprises...0 -

Many public sector workers are currently under notice of redundancy. Local council cuts here, don't start taking effect until August.0 -

While any figures showing a fall in unemployment are to be welcomed, I don't think I'll describe this as "great news" just yet. The above quote tells me that many more months of falls are required before I will feel that less people are out of work on a longer term basis.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0 -
Hi all, thought I would drop by and say hello. Any news?
No like as yet, but looks like the private sector must be picking up some slack.
Surely there's some mistake. I thought that by cutting the rate of increase of Government spending (Government spending is set to rise by more than inflation for every year announced so far by the Tories & Lib Dems) meant the end of economic life in the UK now and forever.
I wonder what happened to Rochdale Pioneers? You'd think he'd be on here to explain why this is bad for the British economy.ellanutella wrote: »Could be something to do with the 35,000 people that the census employed? From the ONS:
It would appear that policies to encourage the long term sick to be able to work with suitable medical support and a little encouragement are also starting to have an effect:There were 482,000 vacancies in the three months to March 2011, up 16,000 on the year. Excluding vacancies for Census 2011 temporary jobs, there were 463,000 vacancies, down 3,000 on the year.
The less that is spent on welfare means Government borrowing can be cut further allowing businesses to borrow and invest. The number of economically inactive people aged from 16 to 64 fell by 71,000 over the quarter to reach 9.30 million. The number of people who were economically inactive due to long-term illness fell by 48,000 on the quarter to reach 2.17 million.
PS Welcome back.0 -

Thats a bit late, Most of the cuts have been implemented for the start of new financial year. So notice were served 3 months before the 6th April. I would expect the vast majority of public sector cuts to hit in April IMHO.0 -
PS Welcome back.
Thanks, it will be a one day only event for now. Hope you are well and all is well in oz, I feel for you today. Tottenham need a fight back and luck of "Istanbul" proportions. I hope you get a couple of early goals so it makes for an enthralling match.
Just hope you have trained Gomez to do Grobbelaar impressions.
