Hi all, thought I would drop by and say hello. Any news?
No link as yet, but looks like the private sector must be picking up some slack.

http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=12The employment rate for those aged from 16 to 64 for the three months to February 2011 was 70.7 per cent, up 0.2 on the quarter. The number of people in employment aged 16 and over increased by 143,000 on the quarter and by 390,000 on the year to reach 29.23 million. The number of people in employment is 331,000 lower than the pre-recession peak of 29.56 million recorded for the three months to May 2008. The quarterly increase in employment was driven by full-time employment which increased by 140,000 on the quarter to reach 21.30 million. The number of men in full-time employment increased by 95,000 to reach 13.65 million and the number of women in full-time employment increased by 45,000 to reach 7.65 million.
Good news on it being driven by full time job growth.0 -
Hey up mate, hope ya doin well.Have owned outright since Sept 2009, however I'm of the firm belief that high prices are a cancer on society, they have sucked money out of the economy, handing it to banks who've squandered it.0

Hi, Fine thanks mate hope you are well too. It is just a fleeting visit due to the time of the year.
Hope everyone else is well on here and have been having the same arguments for the last 3-4 months.
Despite a massive natural disaster and the most serious nuclear disaster since the 80's I am a much happier person.
The forum got to much of my focus, it has been good to be able to cut loose but sad that I don't get to debate with you guys any more.0 -
Things look to be moving in the right direction.
Here's the story from the BBC site http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13059332
Average pay up by 2% over the last year which should help to squeeze inflation as well.0 -
Does anyone know how they work out who is classed as employed/unemployed? as in, what do they use for data, do they say, x amount of people are claiming out of work benefits, therefore y is working or what? as my OH isn't working but can't claim due to me working so wondered if people like that are factored into figures anywhere.0

Great news.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Interesting quoteThe Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the jobless rate among men had fallen, but had risen among women.
That corresponds with public sector cuts ( I believe over 70% of the public sector are female) and possibly an increase in manual and manufacturing labour (traditional male jobs)0 -

They use survey data, so if you say you have worked in the last x days then you're employed. They then record hours to determine whether its FT or PT.
If you have looked for work in the last 7 days or something and havent found anything you're unemployed, otherwise you're inactive.Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.0 -
They normally give two numbers, claimant count for previous month(what it says on the tin) and unemployment rate for previous 3 months based on household survey so includes those looking for jobs but not claiming for whatever reason. Headline rate quoted (7.8%) is the latter.Does anyone know how they work out who is classed as employed/unemployed? as in, what do they use for data, do they say, x amount of people are claiming out of work benefits, therefore y is working or what? as my OH isn't working but can't claim due to me working so wondered if people like that are factored into figures anywhere.I think....0
