Gift for groom on wedding morning...

I wasn't going to bother with this, since he's getting a wedding ring and the day is pricey enough - I'm certainly not asking for or expecting anything from him.

Anyway, he has secretly booked and paid for a little honeymoon for us, which is really really lovely, so i'm thinking it would be nice for him to have a little surprise too.

My first thought was a camera because ours are both old and bulky and not really up to current camera standards. In fact we've both stopped using them and started using the one on our phones instead as they have more pixels. Anyway, long story short, it makes more sense for me to give him that for his birthday in may, as then he'll have the camera for the 10 days before the wedding too, to take pictures of the holiday.

This puts me back to square one though unfortunately. He doesn't wear jewellery... I just can't think. All the things i can think of aren't things i can leave for him to open on the morning of the wedding. Gah!!!

Are you giving your OH a gift to open on the morning of the wedding? what??

I saw some great pair of "groom" socks the other day. They said "incase you get cold feet" on them. :-)

How about something like a pocket watch? You could have it engraved and then its something to keep and show the grandkids in years to come. There are some on amazon with good reviews around the £20, so it neednt be expensive.

Im going to make my oh a little shoe box with stuff in. Some socks, a pair of fancy cufflinks and some other stuff. I wanted to put a soppy poem in, so im going to see about getting an embroidered hanky with it on, as it'll get used then. :-)

May I suggest that an Ipod pre loaded with meaningful songs as a start - the modern equivilent of a mix tape :)
If you buy from Apple direct, you can have it engraved with a message as well.

I got my husband a mug that says "I love my husband", free from Vistaprint ;) , one of those letters from his favourite football club, again free - I put it in a frame for him - he absolutely loved it and bought it to the wedding to show everyone! I also got him a silver pick (as he plays guitar) with a picture of the guitar he has engraved on the front and our wedding date and a few words engraved on the back.
Think I spent about £35-40 in total.

Lol I've already told the girls on the July 2012 thread... I plan on getting MrD something naughty ;):o

He really wouldn't careless about the usual grooms gifts like cufflinks etc. I plan on putting it in a box for him to open on his own on the morning of our wedding. :) It can then tease him all day long thinking about it :D

(Please note this may not be suitable for everyone - I imagine a traditional wedding where the ceremony and reception are all happening on the same day is probably a bit too full on for any hankypanky to happen at night).

Also I wouldn't normally bother - I think giving him your hand in marriage is all the gift he should want/need on that day... but for us it's also the anniversary of the day we met when we usually exchange gifts. So really mine won't be a grooms gift it'll be a 13th Year anniversary gift :)

has Mr Twirly got any hobbies that you could buy him something connected with...or could you book a trip/ excursion connected to the honeymoon...probably not the best suggestion as he's not planning on telling you where you are going...otherwise what about an experience voucher for when he gets home...track day...scuba trial that sort of thing...then its something to look forward to when the wedding is over and married life kicks in.

I rather like the fob watch idea, i'll look at that - and i very much like the shoe box of goodies. Although obviously, whatever i give him has to fit in my suitcase!

The socks are quite funny too. Perhaps new socks and pants and some manfume or something...

    Thanks!

  • I would have gone for cufflinks with the wedding date on them (I like the fingerprint idea too) or the letter from his favourite sports team.
