No Current Provider. Use BT or NTL or ?

Hi
I have not had a phone line or internet connection at my address for a couple of years now. Previously I had NTL and before that BT.
I assume that I would be able to join either as a new customer.
Really I would prefer to just have broadband, but if necessary I will have a telephone line too.
Which of these would be best - in the short term and in the long term?
I presume that rejoining NTL would mean that I would never be able to change to another provider, where as with BT I would be able to get a new (cheaper) provider after 12 months.
Are there are any other options open to me?
Thank you in advance

NTL can give you broadband without a telephone line, if you wanted another provider then you'll need a BT line. The latter doesnt always work out, if you have NTL in your area use it, an uncapped ISP & competitive rates!

You can move your line rental from BT in less then 12 months subject to a maximum cancellation fee of £ 18 . But its not considered a good idea, because you give up the ability to get cheaper calls etc and often end up paying more.
