Oh I think that is a bit tarring all ll with the same brush I know many private tenants and only one has ever said they had to ask to put a picture up. I would simply say cheerio bud but paint all rooms white before you leave so he cant get his grubby far fingers on the deposit.0 -
I wonder if he is worried that you will paint them some garish colours?? Both myself and my partner own BTL properties and my partners last tenants painted the bedrooms bright shocking pink! It was REALLY bad lol.
I bet he has white as it's easy to maintain because he can just paint over dirty bits. If you show him the colours and leave him the surplus paint and he is still saying no then i would move. There are many other LL's out there that would be grateful you want to make the place your home.0 -

This is the problem. Though tenants say they will return the property to its original condition, and I take this to be colour rather then condition, (as wear and tear is normal).... they seldom do in my experience. They move out and if they do paint over, it is done badly and needs redecorating by the LL.
I have a policy of allowing tenants to paint, but for me it is not a problem as I tend to have long term tenants and factor in a repaint job at the end.
But I can see why some LL's will want to stick to white or magnolia. It is easy to correct. There are other ways of adding colour to a room without painting the walls.

Would he object you painting in a neutral colour, such as magnolia, or white?0

I agree with this post to me as long as your rent is paid on time then a re-paint job should not be a problem.
If you do move try and rent something directly from the lanlord and cut the agent out, I have rented many houses over the years and the one time we had any issues was when a blood sucking agent was involved, we have always had great experiences when dealing with the landlord directly. I know its not always possible but worth a try
This current one sound a bit unreasonable are you 100% sure the agent has even asked him thge question? Agents could well be telling porkies.......................
Best of luck and congratulations on the baby of course you want a nice room for the new member of your family"You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0 -
I'm probably going to get hounded, but two questions: Did you put your request in writing? And does the inventory specify wall colour?I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0

if you can't paint and want to personalise the rooms you could always get wall decals and personalise that way? they're not expensive, would look effective and there are a load of nice ones for your babies room.
i know this doesn't solve your problem of not being able to paint but at least you could personalise and can be taken down when the time comes to moving?Moved in!
