Property Retention

Hi, can anyone assist me with this, as I really do need advice and support.

A few years ago DH & I lent some furniture and other items to my sister. We have asked several times for the return of our property and she has been unwillling. Following an argument she now wants US to pay for storage and wants RECEIPTS to prove the stuff is ours!!!! I am being blackmailed by her - unless we give her £200 for "storage" and provide receipts we're NOT having our stuff back nor is there a mention of a date for the handover of the property.

All I want is the stuff back and have no further dealings with her.

Please help as her spiteful, unpleasant behaviour is stressing me out.

Can you afford to lose the stuff?

If it is stressing you so much, I would walk away and cut off contact without pursuing the items. Your wellbeing is more important than 2 year old furniture.

    Hi,

    I agree with "Gingin".
How do you know if you got the stuff back, there wouldn't be things wrong with it anyway.
I would say...let her keep the stuff.
After all, she was in a bad enough position already if you had to lend her furniture?
Cut the ties while you can...she'll be back soon enough!

    Hope this helps!

If she's so convinced the furniture is hers, why is she asking you to pay for her storage? Unless I'm not following something here?

I would say she's just being funny about storage.
Some Sisters can be really spiteful sometimes.

If the furniture's in storage, she isn't using it any more and so should give it back to you. As she isn't doing this, she's playing silly games.

I think the OP means that her sister is saying she (sister) wants paying for storing the furniture/items for the OP!

    Jackie...
The way I understand it is that OP gave her sister furniture to borrow.
If she was borrowing it, why would she need to keep it in storage, why not give it back when she was finished with it?

I think the sister is trying to pull a fast one, ie " You can have it back once you've paid me for storing it for 2 years"

That's even worse! I think it would be worth losing the furniture to get someone like that out of my life.

I don't think she is/was storing it, I just think because there may have been tension between them, she's now being funny by saying I want £200 for storage.
Knowing thats really going to get the OP's back up!
