  • If you have burnt it to the bottom of the pan then chop up some onions and boil in the pan leave to cool and then scrub the burnt bits will come off.

  • Hi, Stellar themselves offer good advice:
What is the best way to clean my Stainless Steel pans?

Soak the inside with warm, soapy water for about 30 to 60 minutes if food is stuck or burnt on the inside. Then clean with warm, soapy water and rinse. For more stubborn stains try the following:

If you are happy to use a chemical cleaning fluid inside your pan we recommend Stellars own cleaner.
If you prefer using general household products please try any of the following:

Make a paste of bicarbonate of soda with diluted bleach and smooth this over the stained and burned area. Leave overnight and wash off.

Pour enough Coca Cola or similar into the pan to cover the stained area. Leave for about 30 minutes and then wash the pan as normal.

Drop a dishwasher tablet or 2 Tablespoons of washing powder into the Pan and add hot water. Leave to soak overnight.

If you do not wish to use a chemical cleaner in the saucepan there are the following methods:
Mix 1 part white vinegar and 1 part water if food remains stuck on inside bottom of the cookware. Boil for three or four minutes or until the food loosens free from the cookware. Then wash with warm, soapy water and rinse.
Mix 1 part lemon juice or white vinegar with 1 part water and use a rag or sponge to clean any white spots or white film that may form on the inside of your stainless steel cookware. You can clean the outside in a similar manner. Rinse with warm water.
Fill your cookware with 9 parts water, 1 part white vinegar and boil for 10 minutes if the white spots or film remains. Pour out, let the cookware cool, wipe the white spots or film away with a sponge or rag and rinse.
If the inside of your stainless steel pots gets discoloured take crushed tomatoes, or old tomatoes that you are going to throw out and put them in the pot with some water. Simmer for approximately 30 minutes and it will clean the pan out beautifully.
Remove mineral deposits with lemon juice and a non-abrasive scrubber or nylon brush. Mineral deposits may appear as a white film on the inside of the pot. Apply a tablespoon of lemon juice to the film and scour with a damp, non-abrasive scrubber. Rinse thoroughly.
How do I clean stained Non-Stick pans?

Non-stick pots and pans will get a grease or oil buildup as they age. This buildup will affect the way your food tastes and how it cooks. To remove the buildup, mix 2 tablespoons baking soda, ¾ cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of hot water in the pot or pan. Place on the stove and bring to a boil for about 10 to 15 minutes. Pour the mixture out and wash the pot or pan with a mild detergent such as washing up liquid. Re-season with vegetable oil.

It does foam up a little but if it gets too high I just slice it off with whatever that kitchen utensil is called that you pick up fried eggs on??! (Sorry, what on earth are they called?)

I'm still using the (then very expensive) Polaris stainless steel saucepans that I bought for my "bottom drawer" - some 50 years ago! I've been using them for nearly 48 years now - and they still clean up beautifully - even after I've burned potatoes to a cinder/had mince on fire - the handles have been replaced by wooden ones (by OH after I'd burned all the composite ones away) - but they are still fine. Goodness knows how many non-stick milk saucepans & frying pans I've got through in the same time - but my stainless steel ones are THE BUSINESS!!

When they have been left with cinders sticking to the bottome, I've first of all put the pan in hot water and added hot water. Then put a couple of spoonsful of biological washing powderin, covered with warm water, left for a day, brought up to the boil, emptied, and then scoured the base with stainless steel pads (about 3 for £1 in Asda) - eventually (!) its clean again!
  • I've never heard of this method. I might have to give it a go with my milk pan!
