Can I influence what speed SKY will set?

Hi Guys,
First day of having Sky BB. I understand they will do some testing over the next 10 days and then decide what speed to set.
Is there anyway I can influence this speed they set?
For example, should I use/download a lot over the next 10 days so they realise that I need a good speed? or is it out of my hands?
I have put a Microfilter at the Main (NTE5) Socket.
The internet connection is wired to my desktop pc. The telephone socket where the adsl wire - coming from the sky router - plugs into only contains the adsl wire, i.e. NO telephone at this socket.
Should I still plug in a microfilter here too?
Speedtest reports 1Mbps. I downloaded an album from iTunes, and that downloaded at 100kbps. I realise it is very early days yet.
Thanks
Sonny

The speed will be set to the highest your line can handle and remain stable. Your use of the connection makes no difference at all.
Filters are only needed for phones/faxes/sky boxes etc.. If there is no phone required at the socket and you have the appropriate connection cable (usually the connector won't match up to a phone socket as it will be an rj11 each end) then you don't need a filter.
The best thing you can do is remove any ring wires - http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm0 -
Thank you very much.
And, silly me, of course I will have to use one with the desktop pc, because, as you correctly say, the 'end' of it is different to the usual telelphone cable.:beer:0 -
Do not keep re-booting the modem to try and get better speeds, the system will see this as dropouts and lower your speed looking for a stable connection.0

Log on to your router and post its line statistics.

We'll then be able to estimate where you will end up when DLM has completed. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
