Why is my internet connection so slow??

If the UK average is supposed to be 6.5mb, why am I averaging around 1??

I am with BT and its a similar speed coming up on Virgin etc for my postcode. And its a new-build property so I would have hoped that decent cables would have been laid!!

Would it have anything to do with an older exchange and thats all the area can cope with in general, do you think?

I live in a massive commuter town, close to London - not the back of beyond either.

The answer is its down to your distance from the exchange, noise on the line, and the state of your internal wiring.
Log on to your router and post its line statistics. This will give an idea of what your problem is.

Virgin cable would be able to supply you with a service at the advertised speed if you are in a cabled area.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
