Digital TV - am I being a dork?

Hi
The TV in my bedroom has built in freeview. Previously I've only watched the tv through an 'eye' from my sky box in the living room. I've now got rid of sky and the 'eye' and gone over to Virgin.
I thought I could just connect the TV up to my normal arial on the roof and access the digital free view channels but it's not happening. I'm getting a message saying No DVB Service found, please check the arial or local dvb service availability.
Surely, if i have built in freeview, i shouldn't need a digibox - is that correct?
Many thanks
Terri

Thats correct
Clearly theres something amiss with your aerial or connections
***EDIT***
OR - your in an area that doesnt yet have freeview:idea:0 -
The DVB Service is your freeview box within your TV telling you that it can't find a digital signal.
Are you in an area that can get a freeview signal?
Other things to try is to do a freeview scan, it should be part of the TV setup.
If no channels are found check your arial and cable.0 -
Are you pointed at a transmitter that pumps out digital TV?0

I've just followed the arial cable out of my bedroom wall - expected to see it go up to the roof but it doesn't - it's hooked up to the old sky satelite!!!
Can anyone confirm if the following are options for me?
Put the old sky box up in the bedroom ?
Or have a cable run from the roof arial into my bedroom?I
I suppose the worse case scenario is let Virgin put another box in, but then that's an extra subscription that I don't really want.
Many thanks

Both option's would work. The sky dish is all ready plumped to ur bedroom so that would be easyer & cheaper if you still got the old sky digi-box.
That said their are quiet a few adult channels on freeview that you ca'nt get on sky.
can you see were the ariael wire from the roof top has gone?0 -

Has someone run a cable from a sat dish to a aerial socket/lead?
You will need a different connector in your room if you are to use the Sky box.0 -
Does your roof aerial have its feed going to your main TV, i.e. the one where the Sky box is located.
If so then if this is connected to the RF in socket, and then the feed to your bedroom TV is in the RF2 out, then you should get the aerial signal in your bedroom.
The Sky box needs to be on standby. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

A good point, not sure how having the aerial socket/cable connected to the Sky dish (as described) has allowed the magic eye to work???0 -
That was my thought, some confusion I suspect, could be wrong though often am!
Of course OP could just continue using the set up as before, freesat from Sky channels are much the same as freeview ones. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

For some people the differences are enough to choose one over the other, however they could indeed, which would involve no change at all, except finding somewhere to put the Sky box next to the new Virgin one.0
