Quick question on terms

Hi all,
I've bought a few things on ebay before, and thought I knew the general craic, but something a seller said to me has confused me.
I won an item on Friday night, about 11am, and didn't realise I had won it until I checked my emails on Sunday. Between Friday and Sunday I had recieved 3 emails from the buyer, and invoice and 2 emails saying pay asap.
I paid and emailed them saying, I didn't get to a PC to check emails until then and that as far as I knew I had 3 days to pay (from ebay help) and I thought 2 emails from them was a bit excessive.
They mentioned that their listing stated payment within 24 hours and I said again, I thought that ebay terms and conditions were the only ones that counted. I have to say I hadn't seen the payment in 24hours bit on the listing so my bad.
They replied with "a buyer cannot Bid on or buy an item when they do not meet the seller’s terms as outlined in the item listing," and said this is from the ebay buyers rules. Is this right? I only want to know in case this crops up again, I'll know not to bid on something with payment in 24hours if it's a weekend ending.

Under eBay terms and conditions, there are 4 days for buyers to pay. However, buyers accept the terms of sellers if bid on sellers' items (if there is any)0

I see...so in effect she (or he!) was right to say their terms override any of ebay terms surrounding payment?
That will help me avoid a lot more sellers in future, I had thought ebays terms and conditions were the ones to abide by. Thanks!carpe diem

The earlier post was incorrect. Sellers terms cannot over rule ebay ones. The seller is talking rubbish, exactly what does he expect to be able to do if a buyer doesn't pay in 24 hours? I do wish sellers would sit down and think abotu things, so you didn't pay, so what exactly can he do? Absolutely nothing is what, and if he tried to relist and resell the item and open an nPB on day 4 just pay and leave him a neg.
Just pay and once you have your goods and are happy I would suggest leaving appropriate stars for communication as seller does not deserve 5* when he obviosuly doesn't have the faintest idea what he is doing.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Soolin, thanks for the clarification. I had always thought ebays terms were the correct ones to go by but then, I'm not an expert on ebay by any means. And when they pulled a link from the help to verify what they were saying (http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/buyer-rules-overview.html) well that confused me more!
I paid on Sunday so that's all good. I just want to more to keep myself right than nitpick this guy, but a lower communication rating does make sense.

As you have paid just wait the specified time for estimated delivery and go from there. I would certainly be reflecting his poor grasp of ebay etiquette in the appropriate stars.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You're incorrect. Sellers terms don't matter. You can put in your listing that you they can only bid if they kiss a pink elephant if you want but that does not stop anyone from bidding. The only terms and conditions worth anything are ones you can enforce without getting penalised. So its ebay ones you can tell people to pay within 24 hours but how do you enforce it as if you refuse to sell because they pay after it you risk poor feedback and DSRs. Its a very nieve seller that would do thatUnder eBay terms and conditions, there are 4 days for buyers to pay. the only terms about paying that I found following that link, clicking on the unpaid item policy link, is:If a buyer doesn’t pay within 4 days, sellers can open an unpaid item case in the Resolution Centre.

the seller is quoting this line from Ebay's policy...
buyers cannot.....
"Bid on or buy an item when they do not meet the seller’s terms as outlined in the item listing, or bid or buy with the intention of disrupting a listing."Instant Credit means Instant Debit!

I think that is the usual ebay 'non talk' and I've seen it explained before as meaning for instance a foreign bidder should not bid if non UK bidders are excluded.
However, I would still just continue to ignore any daftness from the seller, as has been said above what exactly is he going to do anyway? If he refuses to sell just leave a well worded neg, make sure it is nothing that is against ebay rules as you don't want it removed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. i must admit on all the items i sell, my only terms and conditions are payment or at least contact must be made within 24 hours or longer with prior arrangement or i will relist item, mainly because ive had a few problems with people who win and dont contact for ages then decide they dont want it! it really does my head in! i like to have a quick turn around to keep everyone happy! and ive never had a problem with it ***touch wood!!*** x0
