Virgin Media new address

Hi
I've just moved house. I was using Virgin Media (via cable) for broadband and phone line, although I never actually used the phone line and would be happy with broadband only. I still have about 1 month left on the contract.
I called Virgin to ask about moving the service to the new address, and was told that this would mean starting a new 12 month contract. Also, someone would HAVE to come and install it (2 week wait) despite the fact that there is already a cable point and I already have a cable modem etc.
However, a colleague told me that they were able to move without starting a new contract, and that it should be possible for them to activate it remotely.
Anyone know which is correct?

Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

I suspect VM are correct - especially if the house hasn't currently got an active sub as it's not unusual for them to disconnect non sub houses if they need a connection for a subscriber.
Also even when the connection is still fully connected the signal levels will probably need checking, especially if you're on one of the higher speeds for the internet.0 -

Quite correct however cabinet disconnections are quite common as when you remove a piece of kit,say a SACM, & leave the F connector unterminated with a 75Ohm cap,it will allow ingress & egress of signal onto the VM network that may affect other users.Secondly,if you are taking the phone line, the new address will need to be provisioned & the old address moved over,so a cease & reprovide will need to be done first, usually around 5 working days for the cease to complete.0 -
Before you do anythng check if it's worth signing up as a new customer via cashback and paying them for the last month. However, a colleague told me that they were able to move without starting a new contract, and that it should be possible for them to activate it remotely.

Whatever Virgin CS tell you will be correct.
While it's not the same as Virign, I recently moved house twice with a BT line, the first time it was activiated within a couple of hours. As the line was un-used and they had all the details to activate it (new build flat with connections to the cabinet documented). I then moved house with a current connection (much older house), so had to wait 5 days for a cease, and then another 5 days for an engnieer to come to test and bleep the line.0
