To be honest, I think their main concern is your salary!

I'm considering applying for an account with them, as am going to take a year out in the USA next year and want to be able to transfer my salary back home!

Did they mention anything about any particular income requirements during the application process, and do you have to credit your salary etc.?

If you do open an acount with them, don't forget that you can have a second current account in US$ for which they will give you a cheque book. You can also change by phone, the account that your visa card is linked to and withdraw currency up to $500 per day at any visa machine in the USA.

I have a home in Florida and transfer sterling between my current accounts at great rates, $1.925 yesterday. I then write out a US$ cheque and pay it into my US bank account account here, as well as using my citibank Visa Debit Card at ATMs. To qualify for free banking with a US$ current account, you have to maintain a credit balance across all your accounts of £2000 in any currency. If you just have a sterling current account it's free at the monent, but who knows what the future holds!

Sorry, forgot to say - when I called them they said all bank accounts were issued with a Visa Debit Card (I specifcally asked) - they didn't offer any others so you won't get a n Electron.

Not quite sure from this thread, but has your account actually been opened, have you received your cheque book and debit card?

Would be interested to know, as I am in the process of applying.

    Many thanks!

Yes, received Visa Debit card and cheque book and account is now up and running. The debit card though, is not a cheque guarantee card so I suppose I've just got a standard account because they do issue visa debit/cheque guarantee cards. Hope this helps and good luck
  • Thanks for the update! Well done, fingers crossed here then!

  • Hi all!

Just to say that my Citibank accounts have been opened. I have received my Dollar account cheque book and paying in book. I have been online and ordered my UK chequebook. And my Citibank Visa debit card has arrived!!!!

Excellent, and thanks to this thread I now have a fully functional current account.

What is even better, if you turn the Visa Debit card over, on the reverse in the bottom right hand corner there is a hologram saying £100 cheque guarantee. I advise any one who has received their Visa debit card to have a look on the reverse of the card too.

HTH and Cheers to the OP and Weller711 for bringing this to my attention.

    Brilliant News!
I was suprised that we got a joint account (husbands credit record is terrible!), but it seems they are very accepting towards everyone.

    Has anyone been declined yet?
