  • Hi, I'm not sure but I heard the same. i applied for one over a week ago and sent documents and cheque back and I've got terrible credit.I got a letter this morning saying they were processing it and would contact me in next 15 working days so they are not very speedy. I don't think they cash the cheque you have to send until they've actually opened it though, mine hasn't been cashed yet.
Sorry can't be of more help. Fingers crossed

I have a citibank account and have been discharged from bankruptcy for over a year so I suppose you could say I have bad credit. Even still they opened the account and I have been quite impressed with them.
  • Hi, just to let anybody else know who is in the same situation as me - i.e poor credit history - mine is really terrible but just been accepted for a full current account with Citibank to include visa debit card and cheque book. Good luck.
  • Hi,

i was wondering if you applied for this online or did you go into tyhe bank personlly? How long did this take??

I have a VERY bad credit history so am very reluctant to aply to a bank unless I know they consider these situations!

    Thanks

Further to recent postings - just to let you know I chased Citibank up and have been accepted for full current account with Visa debit card and cheque book and as I said, my credit history is disgusting so it might be worth sending that cheque. Godd luck!! Will keep my fingers crossed.
  • Hi, I applied online, recieved the form a couple of days later, sent it back - you have to send a cheque from your current bank account made payable to yourself to open an account with them, and a proof of address and it has taken about a week in total. On the letter they sent saying they had received signed application form it stated they would get back to me within 15 working days - I received that on Tuesday, called up today just to chase them up and they told me I had been accepted.
As for credit rating - well, mine is really, really, really bad - I don't think you can get much worse. The Equifax rating says I am a significant risk!!!

    Hope this helps, fingers crossed
  • To be honest, I think their main concern is your salary!

I'm considering applying for an account with them, as am going to take a year out in the USA next year and want to be able to transfer my salary back home!

Did they mention anything about any particular income requirements during the application process, and do you have to credit your salary etc.?

I'm going to apply, but I don't have a cheque book in my current Barclays account, so how do I go about it?

Only cheque book we have is our Natwest business account, but that's a joint account between 3 holders.
  • I think they did yes, just had to tick a box stating how much would be going in bank account each month - the first box was less than £10,000 so I ticked that and then asked how much would be going out per month - again less than £10,000. I don't think they asked me specifically if wages would be credited but I honestly can't be sure - sorry!!!
  • Ant - this is the e-mail I got from them straight after my application - maybe try ringing the number on it to ask about cheque as I'm not sure and don't want to give you the wrong info. Hope this helps.
